Hi all, i bought myself a nikon 35mm f1.8 to have a go with. Now i dont know if there is a focus problem? took these earlier as an example. m/a and also just on manual focus, do they seem as sharp as they should be? No sharpening at all and just cropped and straightened.

Cannot see anything wrong with those imo. Dont get hooked up on sharpness, if you want it sharper then just sharpen it. The second set look a little worse but then it seems the lens is at a slight angle to the can to my eye.

thanks rich, as to the angle, yes i think i was at a slight angle, also you are right about the sharpness, this is only a mess about, my heart lies with bird/wildlife but cant do anything yet until i sort my long lenses out!. thanks for the input guys.

TBH they look fine to me (apart from the slight angle). You can always add a little sharpening in PP if you need to .. that's what the edit programme is there for :)

cheers mike.

Gazza may i ask if you had the camera on a tripod and used a remote shutter? and i also think the 1st ones look a lot clearer.why is that someone please?
thanks

no chris these were handheld, and the first 3 i used flash? any other input?

Hi Gazza, just that if as Mike says they were shot at the settings he stated with my untrained eye I'm not sure i would notice if you took any better ones.seems like you got it right 1st time but what do you think now?

where they hand held shots? or tripod mounted? as I noticed you had a pretty slow shutter speed for hand holding.

If you read the thread properly your answer awaits ;)

First of all I am no expert but after trying macros of tins I came to the conclusion they are not a very good subject matter for this type of experiment.

So if I were you I would try another subject. Tins, when you look through a magnifying glass, don't look that sharp to me in real life
