Formula 1 (and other categories) 2019

Wonder if Seb will be at Ferarri next year, he has history of moving on when beaten by a younger teamate.

The unforced errors at their home gp won't go down too well either.

Believe Hulk is looking for a seat next year.....

Be nice to see Alonso back for a season :) no way they can keep Vettel on as a number 1 in that team now.

Yep, how to impress the big bosses and the home crowd, spin out all by yourself, then pull away dangerously and crash into another car and then get lapped by your team mate and both cars of your closest rival team.

Looking like it will be close again from FP1

even though both Mercedes and Ferrari messed it up in Singapore and the pace was throttled, I still found the strategy calls fascinating

hopefully with deg being low in Sochi, they might drive a bit more freely this weekend

McLaren returns to Mercedes.

Earlier this week rumours did the rounds at the Russian Grand Prix that McLaren were poised to re-sign with Mercedes, who powered the Woking team from 1995 to 2014.

That has now been confirmed.

“This agreement is an important step in our long-term plan to return to success in Formula 1,” said McLarenCEO Zak Brown.

“Mercedes is the benchmark, both as a team and a power unit, so it is natural we would seek to secure a relationship with the company for the next phase of our journey.

“This announcement reflects the confidence of our shareholders and is an important message to our investors, our team, partners and fans that we are committed to returning McLaren to the front of the field.”

McLaren initially parted ways with Mercedes after 2014 wary that the Brackley squad’s rise as a works team would hamper their own attempts at winning the World title.

McLaren swapped to Honda engines but that was ill-fated before taking on Renault engines in 2018.

That relationship will now end at the conclusion of the 2020 season.

“2021 will be an important milestone for us as we continue our fight back to the front, so it is vital that we have the key elements in place now to enable us to prepare for the new era of the sport,” explained McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl.

“We look forward to renewing our Mercedes relationship from 2021 onwards.

For Hamilton to be champion at the Mexican GP, the following permutations apply:

If Hamilton takes victory (25pts) and fastest lap (1pt), he will be champion if Bottas finishes fourth (12pts) or lower
If Hamilton takes victory without the fastest lap, he will be champion if Bottas finishes fifth (10pts) or lower
If Hamilton finishes second (18pts) with the fastest lap (1pt), he will be champion if Bottas finishes eighth (4pts) or lower
If Hamilton finishes second without the fastest lap, he will be champion if Bottas finishes eighth, without the fastest lap, or lower.
If Hamilton finishes third (15pts) with the fastest lap (1pt), he will be champion if Bottas finishes ninth (2pts) or lower
If Hamilton finishes third without the fastest lap, he will be champion if Bottas finishes 10th or lower without the fastest lap

But...

If Hamilton finishes fourth or lower, the title race definitely goes on to the United States GP next week

Renault thrown out of Japanese Grand Prix result
2019 Japanese Grand Prix

Both Renault cars have been disqualified from the Japanese Grand Prix following an FIA investigation into its braking system.
The team had been protested by rival Racing Point for running a “pre-set lap distance-dependent brake bias adjustment system” on its RS19s.
Although the stewards judged Renault used a device which is “not pre-set, lap distance-dependent as alleged”, they ruled Renault’s braking system “constitutes a driving aid and is, therefore, not in compliance with Article 27.1 [of the] FIA Formula 1 Sporting Regulations”.

Max Verstappen sets the cat amongst the Ferrari pigeons with a direct accusation that they have cheated.

Formula One rocked by Max Verstappen's extraordinary Ferrari cheating claim

Ferrari team boss Matteo Binotto has hit out angrily at accusations from Red Bull driver Max Verstappen that the Italian team had been forced to make changes to its power unit following a directive from the sport's governing body.

Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel won three straight races after the summer break, with the car's speed in a straight line one of the factors behind the Scuderia's resurgence. But after dominating those races, Ferrari have been forced to watch as Mercedes took out the last four races.

Last week the FIA issued a technical directive after questions from Red Bull, clarifying what would have been an illegal fuel-flow issue.

Ferrari were hopelessly off the pace in the United States Grand Prix, with Leclerc finishing more than 50 seconds behind race-winner Valterri Bottas, while Sebastian Vettel was running behind Daniel Ricciardo's Renault when he was forced to retire. The Austin race also marked the end of Ferrari's run of six straight pole positions.

Verstappen, who finished third, said it was "not strange" that Ferrari were off the pace, telling Dutch television: "That's what happens when you're caught cheating."

Will the Ferrari go post break fast or will the suspicions grow that something underhand was being done
Charles should be turning up the wick as he has grid penalties Will he have 7 to 8mph faster than the rest or will the fuel meter be reading correct

Another Technical Directive aimed at all the teams but more than likely at Ferrari
This time the FIA wants the specs of all fluids, make up and quantities to make sure non contain go go juice that can somehow leak into the combustion chambers
Not that Ferrari would stoop that low

I wonder how that will effect Lewis's contract, talks due in Brazil
Lewis did say it would be hard going

Oops

‘FIA seize parts of Ferrari fuel system’

The Ferrari engine controversy is refusing to die down with the FIA reportedly seizing “parts of the fuel system” from the SF90 as well as a customer.

Following a string of pole positions after the summer break, Ferrari’s rivals wrote to the FIA asking for clarification regarding the power units.

Red Bull set out three scenarios for the FIA, all of which were declared illegal.

The FIA then issued a Technical Directive on the matter, highlighting Article 5.10.5 which states that “any device, system or procedure the purpose and/or effect of which is to increase the flow rate or to store and recycle fuel after the measurement point is prohibited.”
