Fujifilm X-H1

The standard batteries work just fine in the X-H1 but you'll probably get a warning on the LCD/VF when you switch the unit on stating that it is not an S type battery etc, etc. Nothing to worry about you can use them without any problems, the warning is only an advisory notice and soon disappears from the screens. Although I've not tried apparently the length of each video shot is reduced when using standard batteries.

"Ex-Pro White" batteries work pretty well in these units and usually do not show any warnings when switching the camera on.

George.

Thanks for that George - I may have found some S variant on ebay from Germany. they're 'Patona platinum' and claim to be W126s, might chance a couple of those :)

Very nice street style portrait Fujigraph, nice pose & expression and works well with the guy in his comfortable surroundings.

George.
Thanks George, much appreciated

Just wondering if anyone else on here adapts Canon EF/s lenses to their H1? I've been doing just that since I got it and find it works out pretty well. But now I have a bit of a predicament. I had planned to grab a Fuji prime like the 35 F2 or maybe even stretch to something like the 23 1.4. But today I got to try out a Sigma 18-35 1.8 [Canon mount] and it works so good on the fringer adapter. It is quiet, fast, accurate and sharp as hell too! It's got me thinking, this lens is like having an 18, 23 and 35 1.8 all in one - it is heavy and pretty beefy for a short zoom, but it has internal zooming so never gets any longer which I like. I know most Fuji owners prefer to stick to Fuji glass, and that makes the most sense. But to me, so long as it works well, I don't mind what make or model the lenses are once I get the results, in this case the camera is most important. As in, I would actually prefer to use these Canon lenses on a Fuji body than on a Canon, weird as it might seem to some. I see loads of people use this same adapter on youtube etc but I don't know if anyone here has tried it out?

I looked at this lens for my step-daughter for her gig photography on a Canon Crop body, but there are a lot of people who have had very hit and miss AF with it, and with the very variable lighting of gigs we decided not to risk it (she will probably go FF anyway). When it all comes together the 18-35 is super sharp, but these issues with the AF really put us off, now it may be that the firmware has changed, or that is responds differently with different bodies/adapters, but I would be cautious especially as even s/h its not a cheap piece of glass (and you are right its quite a weighty beast)

That's a concern for sure, the one I tried might just have been a very good copy. I had the Sigma 35 1.4 in the past and had to return the first copy even after trying to calibrate it using the dock. It just would not stop back focusing. The second copy I received was perfect. But I thought with mirrorless these issues weren't a problem?

I'd be more concerned with the reliability of the focus, if I have an AF lens, I just want it to focus correctly, every time

It seemed precise and nippy during the minute or so I tested it, but again could be that he had a very good copy. The more I think on it the weight could end up bothering me. It's certainly not a casual throw in the bag just to have with you set up. Such a nice lens though, there's a couple going for reasonable prices over here but they're a bit further out of reach than just a simple pop over to test out. I would be taking a bit of a gamble. If I did decide to go for it I'd be better to go with MPB or other trusted company in case I got a dud.

Went out today (First time in a couple of weeks) with the intention of testing myself by asking complete strangers if I could take their photo. I actually found it fairly easy after the first one. I'm a people person anyway so striking up a conversation is relatively easy for me. Plus, my first one turned out to be an actor/model so that helped! Definitely intend to do more of this kind of photography

Below are a couple that I've processed this afternoon. I'm also experimenting with some different presets in LR

Just a simple Fujigraph taken at Dungeness Kent UK of some old bits of machinery which are some of the things scattered about the beach that have just been left behind to rot.
I've deliberately gone for a darker higher contrast gritty look for this snap to emphasize the rust & decay and the mood of the area etc.
I'm also working on a personal project called Things Left Behind and this will be one of the shots included.

X-H1, 18-55mm Lens, 1/400th @ F8, ISO-200, Handheld.

Nice, I love the moodiness - I also like the theme of your project,

Was it not a bit awkward having to carry that and the camera about? As in, when actually shooting, you have to have that plugged in right? I can see it being great in a studio or say, landscape shooting where you're not moving about much. But not ideal for casual walk about photography?

A couple more from Sunday.
This is Gordon. I pretty much chased him down Shaftesbury avenue as I saw him from a distance and he has the most amazing ponytail. When I caught up with him and asked if I could take his photograph, he replied why? I explained I was taking street portraits and gave him my card. I asked if I could take a shot of his ponytail and he refused. All he would say was, my name is Gordon, I'm 81 and I've never conformed in my life. Fantastic!

Like this - Think the title should involve some sort of pun/quote with "Dim Sum Daily" !!!

Being super critical I would have cropped a bit more in from the Left hand corner to lose the hand and viagra on the floor! - but its a great shot.

I completely missed the hand! Thanks for pointing it out. Too engrossed in the knickers I suppose :hungover: and loving the idea for the revised title!

Yeah it looks and feels fantastic on my X-H1, I was so close to buying yours recently lol

Fuji summer cashback now live. I just got a 16mm F1.4 for £669 :D It feels really nicely balanced on my X-H1

That's a positive "RESULT" in my book, "ENJOY".

George.

Fancied the 16mm myself, but I don't tend to shoot very wide, very often. Instead I'm awaiting delivery atm of the Fuji 35 F2 and an 85mm 1.8 to pop onto the fringer adapter.

I have to give kudos to Camera Jungle while I'm at it - and to mention to anyone who may not know, they have 15% off of everything atm - I complained in here when awaiting delivery of my XH1 a few weeks back - I paid for next day delivery but it took 5 for it to get here without any tracking info or communication. Cost me £15 for delivery, we don't get any free options in Ireland from UK sites. Now, the camera was as described 'mint' [hate that term, but it was like new] but there was a few bits missing from the package. I only emailed them about this late last week. The flash unit was missing, as were the lugs to attach the strap, I just mentioned too that I thought the battery performance was a bit below par too. Either they picked me up wrong or they're just being generous, but the flash arrived today with a spare official Fuji battery! Nice! I did not ask for that, but I certainly will take it :D - Now, they also sent another strap .... instead of the lugs, but hey ho :D

How is the focus speed doing?

I guess you mean overall for the adapter? I'm finding it plenty good enough for me, I thought the Viltrox I had for M43 was ok but this fringer is much better - I have even tried it in C-AF and could track slower moving birds using the smaller zone focus box [something not workable with the Viltrox] - and have tried it for video too and it's decent. If you look at the image I posted above you can see how I prefer to set the camera when using it. I'll either set ISO manually or stick it to A - but have the SS almost always on T. I can change SS via the front wheel this way - good reason for this, it completely stops aperture chatter on these Canon lenses. If you stick both dials to A you might just go insane! :D I feel like one of the higher end, more up to date Canon L lenses would be just like using native on this no BS

As for the 85mm, In dim light this eve in the garden it was much better than the 50mm 1.8 in good light! It's also a lot quieter. So far, only a few testers as the light was fading by time I got to test it, but I am impressed. Even at 1.8 this thing is sharp, though there is purple fringing present when shooting against harsher light wide open [very little and easily corrected] - I do plan to mostly use it as an F2/2.8. I also slapped the Raynox 250 on there and no vignetting! yay! :D Because I will also be trying this out as a macro set up - not quite 1:1 but a respectable 0.9x

While Flickr is being a PITA, let me attempt some direct forum uploads, which I can't remember ever doing! :D

[edit] yeah, it shat on them a little, trust me they're a lot sharper here.

Just got the 35mm F2, I went for the F2 this time out as I thought it might work well for video. After testing it out, not the case sadly, the focus breathing is atrocious! Its also nowhere near as silent as I had imagined. It's not loud but it's not completely silent as some reviews suggested. It is a lovely little lens, and seems sharp as you'd want for photos - just going by some quick fire testers around the garden ... in the rain [that is one benefit of this one] but it's not good for video I would say. May as well have got the ol' 1.4, ah well i will give it more of a chance, see how it goes.

Well so far it’s not been a problem tbh it fits nicely onto my belt or fits in vest pocket only time I find I need to be careful is if I’m using my fisheye lens as it can get into my view along with my feet or cap.
It will also charge your internal battery at the same time which is useful.
I used it for a week in the Lake District with a variety of lenses including the 100-400mm ois with virtually minimum loss of power.
Maybe using additional battery packs over the years it’s become 2nd nature but it’s far smaller and lighter than the quantum’s that I used to use.

Sounds good, I imagined something with that kind of power would be huge! Forgetting how slimline tech has gotten these days.

I hit the first page of this thread by accident because I'm on the phone and have clumsy fingers, and jaysis, there was some pants talk about this camera back then. The Sony brigade having to have their say and convince the world that all that matters was Sony ffml, cringey stuff. If everyone used the same cameras how f'ing boring would that be? I wonder do they realise this? I almost went with an A7RII instead of the XH1 as I do like the FF look and the DR is incredible, but the better lenses are just beyond my budget ... by a long shot.

And moving the focus point on an A7Rii will drive you insane.........

That was one of the reasons against too, I know it was fine years ago using just a D-pad but I'm so used to touch screen now that I need at least a joystick if not that. Also the shutter on the 7r2 sounds like a robot sneezing, that might just drive me nuts over time. I did actually have an A7III bought ... or so I thought, but then the seller started to add on hefty insurance cover charges for postage to Ireland. I mean, it wasn't really the seller's fault but there are ways around t get cheaper post - think it only cost £11 for the 35 F2 I just had delivered from classified here
