Yes
Having upgraded from a 400D to a 40D, I finally put my 400D kit on ebay (camera, 2 lenses, battery grip, CF card, Lowepro rucksack blah blah).

I put a reserve on it, and clearly stated UK buyers only.

And the winning bid? Someone who joined that day, based in the United States!!!

Thank you for letting me get that off my chest :D

how about offering it to the second winning bidder?if you can still do that and the price is acceptable and they live in the uk then give that a go!

Just found an email telling me that the winning bidder, which is in United States, says they have paid me for the camera, and included the £45 it costs to send it to Lagos Nigeria.

Ok, I accept I was being a little bit greedy in selling it on Ebay, hoping to get the most I can, but I did clearly state UK buyers only.

Live and learn.....

The winning bid was bang on the reserve price, second bid was £100 less than that.

i would be very careful with this, Nigerian bidders invariably are scammers (not to say they all are, but the biggest issues seem to be with Nigeria)

You will usually get the money, send the goods, then find they have recalled the money and got the goods as well !

Apparently the money is with paypal, who will release it when I confirm goods are sent.

I cant do anything with ebay, as it seems there has to be 7 days after the sale to allow for communication between buyer/seller.

But there is no way I'm sending it to Nigeria.

just forward the scam mail to ebay and report it as fraud... they should refund the fees instantly...this is a SCAM

lol such a scam mate id either offer it to the highest bidder if possible. sell it on here or relist it has just has IanC says they will recall the money once its been sent...

nigerians eh? got to love them for the effort they put in:cuckoo:

Shouldn't be a problem with Ebay if you clearly stated UK Sellers only. You have kept within their rules so I guess the auction has technically become void. Bit odd the dude being registered in the US but wanting it to go to Nigeria/Scam-Heaven.

Perhaps he's Prince Wsambi Ach Akk Akk Mgwabigigi who is the Chief Executive of the National World Clearing Bank of Nigeria and is sending a present home to his family.

I had this once with a high spec Mobile Phone, you need to reject the sale and report the buyer to ebay for breaking the rules. As long as You have clearly stated UK bidders only then ebay should back you

sorry Gman typed faster than me

Check your paypal account - If the money aint there, then you aint getting it. Paypal do not hold onto money, unless they are waiting for an echeque to clear.

Sounds like scammers through and through.

Paypal is showing as no incoming payments, emails from paypal say they have received the money.

Bidder says she wants the camera for a birthday present for her sister in Nigeria.

Edit: I had put "UK buyers only" when I first listed the camera, so don't anticipate any problems there.

hehe

Just set the bidder restrictions next time you list and you won't get that crap again.

Be careful - this is almost certainly a scam. I had the same situation, specified UK buyers only, and the item was bought by someone with no previous feedback, for their dear old gran in Nigeria.

The purchase was followed up by very realistic e-mails from Paypal saying they were holding the money pending proof of the item being shipped .

Yeah... right! ;)

Thats exactly how it looks from here, the paypal emails look kosher, but there is no way that camera is being sent to Nigeria.

The grand plan was to sell the camera and the kit I advertised, use that money to go towards a 100-400mm lens, then put the 70-300mm lens up for sale.

Time for a rethink....

Forward the e-mail to Paypal. It's like peeing into the sea I know, but at least you're doing something, and they'll confirm it's false. :)

If funds are not showing in your paypal account they have not been received. Sorry to hear you attracted a scammer, but at least you can report them to ebay get the final fees back, and hopefully gt a free relist of it.
Echo the others and use the bidder restrictions, although some do use dummy items to get feedback which looks genuine.

Paypal have started putting payments on hold for high risk items or people who have just started out on ebay.

Check your paypal account and if it says "payment on hold post now" then they've paid but you won't see a penny until the buyer signs for the item on delivery, gives you feedback or 3 weeks passes without a dispute ( which happened to me)

I read if the payment is on hold you can refund the buyer 1p and this will release the payment but I didn't dare try it.

Just be careful of emails seemingly coming from Paypal. Don't click on the link in the email just type paypal's url manually in your browser to access your account.

Hope it get's sorted.

Paul
