Has the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S started to ship yet?

Loving the sigma so far, focuses quickly produces lovely bokeh (I'm coming from 50mm and 85mm f1.8 nikon lenses).

The focus speed and bokeh are the biggest things I'm noticing over the AF-S. And the size of course :)

Indeed although on the D700 it feels nicely balanced, I put in on the D80 and it wasn't quite the same story so think that will be stuck with the f1.8 lenses.

The new one is the 'AF-S G', whereas the old one is the 'D AF'. On Jessops it's the £274~ one.

Can I get one before the price rise?

Some thoughts in the month or so since I've had mine:

I use 50mm a lot - that and the 24-70 are pretty much the lenses I could shoot any wedding with these days and that's often the case. The older 50/1.4 is a decent lens, but not great until f2, the AF isn't super-accurate and prone to CA. It's also pretty noisy.

The new lens is a keeper for me and for the following reasons: Sharp from f1.4, less CA, silent AF, small and unobstrusive, excellent value. Smoother bokeh is also a real result.

As ever, best demonstrated with samples. I tend to buy my main kit off-season so I can be sure it'll work when called upon in anger. Hence the Xmas theme :)

All shots today with the new Nikkor 50mm f1.4 AF-S - indoor with D3 and outdoor with D700

The shot of me was taken by Mrs C, and we won't mention the 8 preceding shots where the house was in focus

A couple of grabbed portraits:

A good job done and the house is saved. No serious damage thankfully.

All D700 (at ISO6400) and new 50/1.4 AF-S at ISO6400

Cripes ! The sharpness and sheer realism of those portraits is most eerie :shake:, in a good way of course ;). I love this part too ...

All D700 (at ISO6400) and new 50/1.4 AF-S at ISO6400

ISO 6,400 - no longer the stuff of science fiction :D.

Personally though, I'm not fully won over by the bokeh :|. It seems almost too well defined/distracting, especially where there are lights or strong reflections present.

Still, great looking images - especially when you consider the very reasonable price of the lens :). Thanks for posting them.
