After trying a few time lapse sequences, I decided to have a go at a HDR time lapse and uploaded my first attempt onto Flickr. It's a video so I can't embed it into the post.

Nice one m8 v cool, care to explain how the time lapse was done w/hdr?
was it literally setting the camera to say 1 sec shots w/bracketing?

I use a similar method as described in the other thread with the non-HDR time lapse, but I change two settings on my D700; the first is to auto-bracket +/- 1 stop, the second is to tell the intervalometer to take 3 shots at each 10-second interval.

Then using batch processing in Photomatix, I tone map each of the 3-bracket shot sequences into a single tone mapped image. Each of these tone mapped images is imported into Quicktime as an image sequence, then exported and imported into iMovie.
