Seeing recent pictures of people on here, with their cameras in hand (Edinburgh Gary, 33L and Peachys avatar spring to mind), why do they look so comfortable with their cameras? Why do they look like pro's when they hold a camera? They give off this sort of confidence, and if I didnt know them from adam, I would swear they have all been born with a camera in hand.

So why is it, when I have a camera in my hand, I look like a neanderthal who wouldnt even know how to turn the damn thing on?!?! It looks so unnatrual when I hold a camera, it looks like I shouldnt be holding it. Almost like I am holding it on behalf of someone as they tie their shoelaces.

Am I talking crap here? Someone tell me I am not alone :D

I reckon that's just your perception Dee. A bit of self conciousness perhaps. I bet you look cool as a cucumber with your camera in hand to everyone else :D

Haha, you're right there :D Ive had people tell me I look very cool and professional, how wrong some people can be eh?

Self conciousness isn't an issue really, wonder why I think this way? :p

b****r, that'll explain all my black images lately

/pops lens cap off

Haha, i think people (unless they really are total numpties) always look good behind a camera. And its always good when people say "that some kit you got there".

I think you just need to BE confident to look confident though. Dont panic about too much and you will be fine :)

But I consider myself a very confident person, not arrogant, but confident :D

So why doesnt that come across when I catch a glimpse of myself in a shop window or something? :D

Dee, it's probably just that old self criticism thing .... you, know we are all our own worst critics.

Coz it's a TV screen you're looking at in Currys :D

Hows about posting a pic of yourself holding a camera so's we can REALLY comment? (Please?)

how you hold it can tell people alot..

its all in the body language.. for example.. a two grand camera draped off your one hand like " yeah i know its there but its got a job to do"
looks / gives the impression that the owner knows its safe and what he /she is doing or they are a total numpty.

or you have someone with there pride and joy that they treaure with everything they hold dear.." normally two hands on camera and strap around neck or wrapped around wrist...

just my thoughts on it

Will have to wait until the weekend when I have my second body :D

I see what you mean MD, guess other people see something different to what I see eh? :)

Where are these pictures? I'm intrigued now, I want to see how I compare. :D

I generally hold the lens with the camera strap wrapped round my wrist just in case (with the Sigma and 300mm lenses).

Just make sure you’ve taken the lens cap off before pointing it at something and you’ll look fine! :D

9 out of 10 times I forget to do this

And 8 out of 9 times people laugh and point :p

I think it's just a matter of being comfortable with the camera. If someone's comfortable with their camera and knows exactly what they're doing with it then they'll look comfortable too

Unless you've seen the other thread... what do you think now? :D

I think you look happy with your camera, confident and holding it well.
Dont be so down on yourself, be happy and enjoy what you are doing :)

nothing wrong with that Dee.
pretty as ever and you do look like you know how to handle the camera and it doesnt just look like a prop.

btw which pic of me did you see?

I think women look good when holding a camera ;) :D

Sorry Lee, just saw this! The one of you from behind with a red strap I think? Not much light on it... you cant have done that many :D

not many but a few! My Tux in that picture i think made me look a little more professional.
