March is a little too late in the year to have a good chance of seeing the northern lights. You have a very good chance around Dec-Feb but you need to go to high latitudes (northern Norway and Sweden) to increase the odds of seeing them. It's not cheap either as you need very good snow clothing to withstand the temperatures up there - I spent a good £300 on gear (the gloves alone were £100) when I went up to the arctic earlier this year to see the aurora myself. And don't kid yourself that you can get by with cheap gear up there, as you'll be taking a serious risk with frostbite or worse - the average temperatures I experienced were around -35C and got as cold as -45C the one day.
You could try Iceland though. It's absolutely beautiful and there is a chance of seeing the aurora, although not nearly as good as earlier in the year and further north. Icelandair have a lot of reasonable package deals, and the entire country is a photographer's dream.
