In June this year, my wife and I are going to Andalusian area of Spain, specifically the Cities of Granada, Cordoba and Seville, it is a coach trip, flying into Malaga, and two nights in each of those cities, and a trip to the Alhambra palace included.

Does anybody who has been here give me some helpful tips, photography wise and of a more general nature.

Any restrictions on "big" "professional" looking cameras, tripods for instance.

But there is "time off" in each of the cities.

Any helpful tips, advice, suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Pete

Granada is pretty nice - check out the Alhambra - Moorish architecture at its finest...some parts of it prohibit photography, but the 'good' bits are fine (no tripods).
Get in early to avoid crowds in your shots...

Try and get down to Cadiz, beautiful place.

At the Alhambra, I'm led to believe that you need to 'book' (according to some friends who've been) to see the 'inner sanctum'.

Seville is nice just to wander around, plenty to see. I was disappointed with the Plaza de Espana which you always see on TV, but they were renovating it when we went.
Cathedral is magnificent.

Not in advance, just queue up and get a ticket at the entrance - but like I say, get there early...

A few years ago I was able to use a Mamiya 7 on a tripod in the Alhambra without any issues. Whether this has changed now I don't know. We were let through in groups at a set time but I was still able to shoot without others getting in the shot, I timed it so they were behind pillars etc.

Seville was a nightmare as most buildings were covered in scaffolding when I visited.

We had to book at least a day ahead to get either an early or late visit (far too hot in the middle of the day) Can recomend taking a bus and heading up to Mirador square (beside the Iglesia de San Nicolas) for early/mid evening pics of the Alhambra. It gets quite busy up there, so you may need to wait a while to get to the front, but its well worth the wait - do take your tripod with you though

salobrena is a nice little town with some history
its in that area ...almost
worth a quiet visit

Thanks very much for all the replies everybody.

Hi Pete

I live a couple of hours from Granada so have been lots and have been to Cordoba a couple of times too.

Some great photo opportunities and if you tell me what you're after I can probably help.

If you want some info just PM me :)

The cathedral/mosque in Cordoba is stunning. (On the inside.) Not easy to photograph, but that's not what it's about. Make sure you visit it early in your time in Cordoba, because you'll want to go back.

Thank you Jill,

Any recommendations for "must see" things in any of the three cities would be much appreciated.

Apart from, obviously, the Alhambra Palace, which is included in the itinerary of our coach tour.

Thanks to you too Stewart

Why do you say the above? I intend taking my Siggy 10-20, or is it the light?

Pete
