How do I change the programme that opens my pics?

As the title says really. For some reason I have got Ifranview opening up all my pics as I go onto my external drive. They take ages to load as thumbnails. Would it be better to use windows media, or whatever it's called? Also, How the Hell do I change this?
 
Dont know about Vista but with XP I right click and choose open with then at the bottom it says, choose program hit that, when the window opens, choose your program then theres a tick box at the bottom always use this program
 
Can I do that for multiple images that already have an association? That works fine on vista with one image at a time. Also, how can I stop it viewing with Irfanview on all future pics?
 
When you right click and choose open with select default program, then choose the program you want to always open images with and make sure the always use this progam box bottom left is ticked and it should always then use that program.
