I don't understand how a Smart meter will save me energy ?

Our electricity provider offers a plan which shifts demand to lower usage at certain time of day. Their projection for changing our plan to that time-sensitive usage would save us 3.14% over the course of a year...$100 over a full year! <yawn>

Saw this today on HOTUKDEALS and then the text below from an owner, no brainer.......

Lovely to drive - I have this model in Metallic Gray and running on the "Octopus Go" EV charging tariff (after getting a level 2 (7KW) home charger fitted for £720).

Finding that 4 hours of overnight charging fits our daily driving requirements (120-150 miles), with the odd top up on the daytime tariff.

Octopus "go" tariff has a 9p per kwh price between the hours of 12:30 and 4:30am - simple to setup in car by telling it which hours you want it to accept charge then plugging it in after your last use every day!

Kind of hoping I never need to use a public charger with the excellent mileage from the extended model - but I guess only time will tell :)
