How often do you see something which you realise too late could've been a great shot?

Just yesterday waiting at the traffic lights was an open topped MG.
The woman driver had wild frizzy red hair and sunglasses, but best of all in the back seat was a mad selection of mannequin parts, with legs and arms sticking out in all directions!

Never got the camera at the right time.

Many years ago I borrowed a mannequin for a display at a County Show. I had to go and pick this up from a shop in town. The only way it would fit safely in the car was in the front passenger seat with the seat belt fastened. It was amazing the number of double take looks I got as I drove through town.

Worth doing for the fun of it.

Many times, but the one I remember the most was walking along a local country road and turning the corner only to see a herd of wild deer blocking the way. They were no less than a cars length away and looked at me with the same 'what the...' expression as I was giving them, before they quick-timed over a farm wall into the shade of some woods.

I carry a camera everywhere, this enusres that nothing photogenic ever happens! :D

It would've been a right moment, however whether it would be a good shot is debatable. You would have to get out of your car to get the right angle for a start. There are loads of moments like these, I just take a mental picture.

Pics or it didn't hap ... oh, wait.

:(

You need a mobile phone!
Trouble with that is that by the time you've got your phone out, unlocked the screen, found the camera app, waited for it to start, lined up the shot and sorted out the zoom the photo opportunity is usually long gone!

With the iPhone 4S you don't need to unlock it or find the camera app. All you do it touch the home button and swipe up, and the camera is ready to shoot. The newer HTCs are even quicker.

I've spent years trying to get the right kit and £1000's and now you say I should have bought shares in Apple!

A friend of mine took a skeleton to school in his car :D

I had a mate doing similar but he had a bad accident on the way to med school and was taken off to hospital by air ambulance while the police etc had to clean up the scene. He came round after an op to find the police waiting to interview him over a possible murder and mutilation case.

Nope. Just saying that mobile phones have their uses and can take pretty decent shots nowadays.

Buying shares in Apple would probably have been a good idea (if done long enough ago) but that is besides the point.
But yes, as most people always have their phone with them they can be quite a good tool for that shot you would have otherwise never got. In a few years time they will probably be more than quite a good tool...

Similar thing for me today, Mrs cries out Oh No!! rush downstairs to find masses of feathers in the garden but no body, looks like the local sparrowhawk has had Collared Dove Al Fresco tonight. Now if only I'd have sat downstairs with the camera.... :(

A couple of years ago I was walking my dogs in the local woods when I noticed a kestrel sat on the fence. I'm guessing it was an escaped / released captive bird (no jesses) as it was quite happy for me a 2 bouncy Weimaraners getting within 10 feet of it.

Camera was sat nice and snug in it's bag at home...

Hey,my pictures are mental to.

I,ve heard the aren't reliable though.An apple a day.:naughty:

Was walking the dog the other week ,when a Vulcan bomber flew right over my head at around 150 feet. Camera in car.:bonk:

I see a lot of shots while driving and can't stop.
The other week on the way to Ingleton Falls I saw a pack of hunting hounds running after a bloke on a bike in the field next to the road.
Obviously they were being exercised, but I thought it would have made a good shot.:bang:

Last year I was heading down to RAF Halton where my other half works, wasn't far from it when I saw a red kite sitting on a fence post no more than 6/7 meters away from the road, slowed, stopped it didn't move....no camera to get a picture. Cursed all the way to the base, I now make sure I've at least got my backup camera in the car.

oh, lots of times! but I don't usually have to look far. I have two young kids and there were dozens of times a day that I wished I had the camera in my hand. I take a picture with my heart instead.

Hi Rick, was that this year when you saw the Vulcan flying, been trying to get a definative word from VTTS whether it'll be up for this years shows, but they're stalling with an answer. Fingers crossed!

FAR too often.
Note to self ➝ I need to shoot more.

OK - hands up who else has been trying this on their iPhone - it doesn't work

Ah, just upgraded to 5.1 os and it's included in that. Next to the unlock slider is the camera button

It was there Pre iOS 5.1 but to access it you just had to double press the home button.

Not forgetting mr Plod :nono: Even when stationary

And as someone else stated, the camera button was in the home screen pre this update if you'd had double-tapped the home button.

I've been using my iPhone 4S just for snapshots & personal photographs ~ it's honestly an amazing camera for a phone.

Second that.

Hum, double click on mine gave me access to the player controls and still does (play, forwards & backwards).

Have you got a 3gs or a 4 or 4s?

if so before latest 5.1 update
on the lock screen you had to double tap the home button to activate the camera button,

with the new 5.1 update the camera button is there all the time next to the home button on the lock screen

HTH

I was lucky, nearly always carry my kit with me, as my job entails a lot of travelling.

Anyway I caught this when I was on the way home last July, stuck in a queue for the railway gates (10 minutes).
