Yes
I feel like I've just passed my driving test :D

I sent in 4 images last week, which all failed (bad PP work on my behalf). So I sent another 4 in last night (no PP work, straight off the sensor) and I passed 100%.

It seems some things are better left alone ;)

Well done gary,its a start.:thumbs::)

If you're successful there, you might want to give Alamy a try.

I hear they are quite highly regarded.

In which case, allow me to congratulate you on your achievement.

Are you prepared to show off your work or would you prefer to keep it to yourself?

I've been editing images for over a year for a stock photographer who submits to Alamy, it's pretty obvious.. but make sure there's no spots of dust on there if they're digital..!! lol
You can upload a batch of 50, and if they happen to check one that's not right, they'll fail the whole lot :D

Well, I started with a few scenics from my local hills & lochs. Nothing fancy and chances are they will not sell; but it has given me a benchmark for the quality control requirements for future submissions.

Once I get the images re-sized for web, I'll put them up.

Thanks for the comments, I'm still on a high yet :)

Just curious as to what kind of photo you would send in as a first sample also what sort of photo can earn money..provided you are accepted..:)

The most popular so I hear are those based on binge drinking.. drug abuse, and family pics.
Flick through any magazine and have a look at the kind of pics used there, they're almost all stock photos. (minus those found in arty-farty mags!)

When I go home this weekend I am thinking about properly editting some of my shots for submission - even if they don't sell it would be nice to be considered technically good enough to sell, then the only thing holding me back is my choice of photography not my skill

Worth the effort - well done gary - now upload a thousand or two more! :)

Great news, well done! I'm not sure if you needed to do it with your kit, but how did you meet the file size? Someone put a guide to interpolating the image on here and I followed it to the letter. Ended up with a tiff well over 100mb, but the largest jpeg that gave me was around 12-3mb. Don't mean to hi-jack, just after some advice!

Yeah this confused me as surly if you are enlarging your photo the quality will suffer ??

But well done on being accepted

I simply set up a photoshop action to do this....

Open up in Photoshop
-Go to Image/Mode/ and select 16 bit
-Go to Image/Image Size, set the width to 5128 and under "resample image" make sure you have Bicubic Smoother selected
-After the image is resized, go to Image/Mode and select 8 bit
-Go to File/Save and save it as a JPEG file at level 12, and you're good to go

I simply press shift + F2 and bingo its done. This is after other PP work ***.

You ideally want to save at the end from a 100mb 16bit tiff once it's flattened, down to a JPEG which should give you a correct file size?

Here's a link to Darrell Young's method, the same as previously posted but with pictures: http://www.youngimaging.com/Article-HowDoISizeAnImageSoAlamyWillAcceptIt.asp

My standard RAW images are 4256px on the long side, so I don't need to up-size too much, but as stated 5128@16bit will give a 100mb tiff file and work from there.

Gary

You simply upsize in Photoshop or Lightroom so thast the IMAGE size is at least 48 Meg - the FILE size may well be 12 - 15 Meg - they are NOT the same thing! Make the JPEGs straight from the RAW files - you don't need to make a TIFF first.

What sort of money are we talking about on Alamy per image?

Look at any image on Alamy - click the thumbnail - on the window that opens there is a calculator - photographer gets 60% of the fee.
