Jon, the crops do not do the image any favours .. try different ones ..... giving more space around the images ....... landscape .. subjects not central and looking into space

you can also make the images more vibrant and add contrast to the second .. also just look at the greens in the bg

both images just miss the mark thru composition and processing

they are good images and can see why you are pleased with them but take the next step and think about the composition
