I have decided after mulling long and hard over my 100-400 that I am just not happy with it. It just does not seem sharp and the more I look at other images taken with my old 55-250, I think these look sharper.

So I am going to return it to Jessops and they'll send it off to Canon. I am wondering how long I will have to wait for this to get back to me?

Anyone have experience of Canon customer service with items under warranty?

A long time maybe 3-5 weeks?

If you sent it to Canon yourself maybe 10-14 days

That said do Jessops send it to Canon or a third party fixer?

If you are a CPS member, it should be back with you within 5 days or so. I'd personally send it straight to Canon at Elstree, if you call them they may even get UPS to pick it up FOC.
Tell them you're not happy and want it calibrated.

I'm not a cps member. Do you think it is better for me to go to Canon direct as opposed to Jessops in the first instance?

I think it will only take longer via Jessops, Canon will send you an email keeping you up to date with what's happening, and I strongly suspect it'll save you time.

for non CPS members if it is sent direct to canon or one of thier approved repair places they usually try to work on 10 day tunaround.

Not sure where you'll find it but I have a note in my office. If no one has posted the address by tomorrow, I'll dig it out.

Perfect guys, thanks. Have emailed them to get return details - Still pixel peeping to decide if it really does need to go back as I really hope not.

I'd use 00 800 22666 767 as the other is straight to the actual technicians and they may not be too chuffed, it's a bit more longwinded but won't ruffle any feathers!!

Ps I'd send it back as you can for no cost at the moment and believe me it can make a difference. I send every L series back for calibration as a matter of course when I buy them, they will be set so that (in my experience anyway) they don't require any micro adjustment. You will then know it's at it's optimum settings.

My 40D was returned to Jessops who use Calmunet for their Canon repairs (who it should be noted are not mentioned on the Canon site as repairers).
They messed me around, constantly telling me they would have the parts in two days, for 7 1/2 weeks!

Finally they admitted defeat and returned the camera to Canon, by which time I'd had enough and got replacement cost in vouchers.

I used Colchester cameras to fix my lads 400d and they had it returned to me in a week.

Does that mean I'll have to send back the body too?

No, they set them to a body which is pre calibrated, but I'd tell them which body you have, and give a description of the fault...although I suspect that you could say it's soft. Ask them to calibrate it.

I spoke to the service centre about my lens, (24-70), and they recommended I send both body, (5DmkI), and lens to them at Elstree. Obviously speak to them first it might not be the same for everyone. I was told an 8-10 day turnaround at the moment and that's with a bank holiday, (they don't do weekends BTW), which I think is OK. Agonising without a camera though.

I've heard that you will need to wait for several weeks, my friend did send one back and the lens did come back with better IQ...
