One shot with my son. Taken with Xperia Miro, so it doesn't really look good, but I think it will be ok in family album .

Yeah, you're right!

Vivid colours and proper panning, great
details and the concentration of that little
fellow and the sweet effect of the move-
meant blur and correct WB… but ain't that
what everyone is aiming for?

Tell me, Tom,
why this shot doesn't really look good?

It is on the soft side, noisy soft side . I know I can't expect much from phone camera and wouldn't expect such comment on photo forum, thank you .

Had you shot that scene with pro gear and
say for a client, the bell would have had a
different tone. As a phone take for the family
album, that changes everything. That's why I
said nothing of resolution… among others.

My two sons did not have the kick for bikes
but were drowning themselves into hockey,
Canadian style. I was doing better shots than
other parents because of my skills and gear
but none of mine would have found a place in
their family album.

So I tend to look at things / shots for what they
are, in their context: your son + on a bike + for
the family album = coooool take!

Two more shots from today. Again taken by phone, but...

I like this one as it didn't turn out too bad considering my gear. Shame that any attempt of retouching resulted in halo here and there, but it's a compromise I can live with .

The other one shows what I intended to catch - emotion on little boy's face . We deffo had a good day!
