Looks like it hit the "something" after hitting him.
The police have, apparently, brought no charges so far.

Looks to me like the bus came round the bend too fast and had to take it wide then hit some sort of signage after the chap was struck.

Can't see the driver escaping prosecution unless the bus had a mechanical, had a couple of recent incidents locally that were bus driver error.

There was a big report in Private Eye a while back about several instances of a particular bus design suddenly surging in power through no fault of the driver.
