Guys

as a fountain of knowledge here, I wanted to pick some mac geniuses brains.

I have a 2008 macbook that I wanted to wipe. However I purchased Ilife 09 family and have that shared amongst family on several machines.

If I completely wipe it I believe I will lose Ilife 09 that I purchased and installed? Also I dont think I have any family licences left and so will that mean I will lose my licence for ilife 09?

Help?

If you wipe your Macbooks's hard drive and reinstall, you then simply reinstall your iLife '09 from its install DVD. You are not breaching your license agreement. You might be confusing Apple's iLife with programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS2, CS3 or CS4 that have a limited number number of activations.

I hope I am!

The ilife 09 family pack consists of 5 licences for family computers. I think we've used all 5 licences?

will this not matter as I'm not rally installing this on another machine?

Sorry but I'm still not down with it on the mac stuff :)

iLife '09 is not serialised and not web activated. Your license allows you to install on 5 Macs. As well as doing as I suggested, you could for example, delete it off your Macbook and install it on a new Macbook Pro if you bought one. All you need to do is ensure you have backed up all you need, ideally your user folder, and check you haven't lost your iLife install DVD.

You will have removed it from the machine during the wipe / reinstall of OS X

You will not lose the license, because you've removed it from the other machine.

You could also use migration assistant if you're moving from one Mac to another.

Just to confirm, the family pack gives you 5 licenses but you could install it on ten computers they just trust that you will only install it on 5 so yes, just go ahead.

I see from another thread you will be selling the Macbook once you've exchanged the battery, this is no doubt why you are reinstalling everything. As you've advertised it with iLife '09, and that won't be on the install DVD's, if you give away the iLife install DVD you will have problems if you ever need to reinstall on the other family members Macs you mention.

If the iLife install is from the family pack. Selling it on is a breach of the "family pack" license.

The Family Pack Software License Agreement allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that household. By "household" we mean a person or persons who share the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home, or condominium, including students who are primary residents of that household but reside at a separate on-campus location. This license does not extend to business or commercial users.

You (as in the OP) either need to sell it with iLife 08 (or whatever was shipped on it) or supply a single iLife 09 license with it. (Just seen one for £40 on eBay)

thanks for everyone's concern.

I am aware of the situation with regards to the licences etc but wasnt sure on how the software dealt with installation.

I have resolved this anyway so cheers all!
