Wasn't too bad, just that too much makes me a maudlin drunk if I'm already down about something or other.
Problem with this specific location is that it's in the middle of nowhere - at least 1hr to the next decent town, Hannover. Two hours to Hamburg by car, or 40 minutes by train from Celle - the nearest town with a train station. Taxis and all that add up, so the general populace here just go into Bergen - three 'decent' squaddie pubs and a few odds and sods. But it gets a bit tiresome even after a month. If I go farther afield, I cant drink and to be honest, my German is so ****-poor that 'exploring' on my own is fraught at best.
It'll get better as my language skills improve and I get to know the countryside more.
Being surrounded by 25-year olds can be a drag though - most of my peers are married/officers and so a different social mix - the 'Pads' have theier own thing going on by and large, to which the 'singlies' whilst not actively excluded aren't really a party to.
