Money thoughts …

has anyone ever had a major pay out from Ernie?.. in the thousands...£5k upwards ? I ahve only been doing PB a couple of years..

Juts being nosey :)

Had a few £200 wins. Been in ERNIE since I was a kid, so about 60 years... mind you for most of those years it was only £2. Been a "proper" user since 2019.

My mum used to say that her father-in-law won £10,000 - "Bloody typical!" she would add, "He didn't even need the money".

Been doing bonds for about 10 years I guess.

We 'won' £10k last January. Nice surprise scrolling through the prize checker app, £25, £25, £100, £10,000....

This month, just £275 from our two accounts :(

Her = £100

Her average is just under 4%, Mine is a lot less.

Another luckless month here.
I'm going to have to think hard about what to do, had so little over so many months..

Technically no. You would also loose 1 months draw, and no doubt that would be the month that you were down for a big win. However if you look at the dates winning bonds were bought a large majority of them were bought in the last 5 years, so maybe worth a go.

Only had mine 7 months (bar a £2 one I had for years

For the first 60 years I got nothing from my 1 pb, but since I put a few grand in a few years back I've had several wins, but nowhere near 4% return.

On pure returns pb are a bad buy at the moment, it's an average 4% IF you're lucky. In a saving account it's a guaranteed return.

I was pretty chuffed with my PB winnings recently, the MSE calculator considered me ‘very lucky’ - I’ve never won >£200 in a month however
More fool me when I scrolled further and compared it to a savings account, and also inflation which said I’m basically at nettting out at zero
I guess the thrill of potentially winning £million keeps us all in it

Decided to put 1k of bond money into gold coins. I know they are high at the moment but bought for long term, and they are VAT and CGT free.

I cocked up years ago by not buy when low, but the idea that they where going to send a £5K bar in the post put me off.

That was before I told a mate at work that only a mug would buy bitcoin at £1000 :headbang:
