It is unlawful for a trade seller in a transaction with a consumer to state that the item is 'sold as seen' as it is an attempt by the seller to limit the consumer's statutory rights.

garages do it all the time with second hand vehicles sold as spares or repair, and camera dealers regularly do it with secondhand kit which is below par

Your statuatory rights are unaffected, all it means is that they are not offering a warranty on it (which they are not legally obliged to do with second hand kit) - It also means that they are making you aware of the various faults at the time of purchase so you can't later claim you were unaware of them and claim a refund under SOGA

'Sold as seen' is generally used to mean that 'you take it with all faults, whether disclosed prior to the conclusion of the purchase or not' - which is unlawful for a trader to state. Also, just because something is done all the time doesn't make it lawful......Have a read of the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999.
