Isolation works too, the dof certainly isolates the pink flower from the yellow background.

haha great shot for stop, i can imagine all kids are thinking the same when the grown ups get their camera's out. was it a set up shot, if it was its well doione, if it was a candid then its a fantastic capture:thumbs:

isolation fits the bill well, you have created a really shallow dof and the yellow colours behind look like a watercolour pallet.
 
I agree with Charlie. Really unique interpretation of the theme and you've controlled the DoF perfectly. The whole of he flower is perfectly sharp and the background is brilliant.

It's a shame that you couldn't have got it in all its flowering glory, but the dying flower heads almost add another layer of desolation and isolation.
Lovely colours and well executed. I like this a lot.

This signpost is about halfway round my favourite walk from Bakewell up to Ashford in the water onto the Monsal trail and back to Bakewell.

I like the idea but as Allan said the tree behind if off putting. sky again, but its hard work in the UK when the weather is only nice for a week a year
 
I was asked by our press officer to take some shots of varios activities in the unit that I manage. These were for use in our advertising brochure, department newsletter and company website.
I think this one fits the bill for Metal.

Post, a great idea, and a wonderful post. The post itself is spot on, but the sky is being it's usual painful self...

Metal, I try not to comment on a theme I've not got something for yet, but there's no chance I'll get anything like that :D... I think it fits the theme, and would say it probably fit nicely in the brochure.. what did the press officer think ? The focal point is clear, and I quite like it.

Lovely craggy texture and wonderfully descriptive directions - you wouldn't find that on a normal road sign!

As others have said, let down a bit by the background - distracting hedge and dull sky. Definitely more potential in that post though.

I can really see this in your company brochure, so I hope your press officer liked it.
From an artistic perspective I'd maybe have liked a bit more blur in the background to lose that crease, but for the purpose it was shot for I think it's pretty much spot on :thumbs:

His fingers do look very close to that blade though :eek:
 
It's great when the ideal picture presents itself for a theme, Steve - and you have certainly made the most of it.

It's an excellent shot - I like the composition, the concentration suggested by his body language, the subdued background (minus the crease :)), the way the light is falling on the metal sheet and the reflection of his overalls in the metal. I also like the pov and I bet it looks great in the brochure.

Definitely a :thumbs: from me. :)

Thanks all and yes the press officer has used this and some of my other images in our advertising literature and on the website.
 
Grunge is not an easy subject, but I think this fits the bill.
This is the spill tray on the workshops used oil disposal tank, looks like it needs a clean up.:)

Absolutely spot-on the the theme and I actually quite like the monotone textures here. I think closing in on one section might have made for a stronger composition.

Well your 'grunge' shot is certainly spot on - lots of depth and detail in there, great!
 
Now that's :gag: very grungy... so bang on theme... I think I'd agree with Phil, narrowing in on one item would make it stronger.

A bit of a cheat as this image is about 5 years old.
My grandaughter Naomi at about 1 hour old, and the start of a great relationship.

She will be 5 in August. She can cheer me up when I am down, she is full of energy and always has questions to ask about anything and everything.

Not a technically good shot, but still one of my favourites.

wow looks like some weird jelly fish at the bottom of the ocean, really nice colours.
 
That's beautiful Steve - no idea what it is. Looks like some kind of combination between smoke art and painting with light.
To be honest though, I don't care. I just really like for what it is :thumbs:

I missed your beginnings shot last week too. She's a real cutie.
As you said, it may not be technically perfect but some of my photos that mean the most to me aren't technically perfect either. Sometimes it's more about memories and emotions . . . and in that sense it's perfect in every way that matters.

Technicaly this is not a photograph, it is generated from a mathematical formula using a fractal generator and a bit of photoshop.
