hi folks

i'm going to visit my daughter and family, who have recently moved to catterick..most probably this weekend.whilst i'm there,i would like to do some landscape photography, but as i'm not familiar with the area, would appreciate some help on locations etc..
i don't mind travelling a reasonable distance, but hopefully with no big hikes involved,as my long suffering isn't up to these, and would most likely want to join me,as may my daughter and family..

TIA

mark

PS..mods,please feel free to move if in wrong section.

Hadrian's Wall, you can be there in 1:30ish. You'll be hard pushed to find nicer scenery. All up the Northumberland coast.
Brimham Rocks http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-brimhamrocks.
Goathland where Heartbeat is/was filmed.

The list goes on, hope you find somewhere nice. I'm sure you'll be used to crazy weather

north yorkshire moors are right on your door step. Take the A66 towards Barnard Castle and take left turn (anyone) some great places . Tan hill inn is a great place to head for too as on the way up there loads of great place to shoot..

i know it may not be what you are looking for but Richmond is next door to cattrick and it has a lovely castle

Don't know the area that well myself but I was down in Helmsley last month for a wedding.

The road over the hill between Thirsk and Helmsley (A170) was a lot more dramatic than I expected and I thought at the time it would have provided some lovely landscape images.

Not sure how close that is but thought I'd mention it.

you can give Aysgarth Falls a try - prob about 20-30mins drive. Family can take a picnic while you have a wander.

Then from there, you could head towards Thoralby - Kettlewell, you'll get some great landscapes there through the valley. There's also Melmerby and Middleham which are next to each other. Both within 20 mins of Catterick.

Middleham has race horse stables and they regularly take the horses out on the gallops (i mean hundreds of them!!) and you're very welcome to go and take shots of them in full flow.
