That's what I thought they were but wasn't sure, thanks.Top two I think are Black-tailed skimmers.
I just got this book in the post. Really good - I had the excellent Insects of the New Forest Book by same author before.
This one is a Comprehensive Guide to Insects in Britain.

Looks like a dagger fly Empididae.
Thanks, there were quite a few common blues around so this would make sense.I think this is a male Common Blue Damselfly, only just emerged.
Hi Ted,
Fungus gnat - Sciara hemerobioides
I think that this could be Angle Shades. Could anyone confirm, please? It was on my yard path in full sun so I moved it in to the weeds. It was still alive.

Not sure on this one, its not a small spider by a long shot compared to the average Garden spider. I will try and get a size comparison with a fly at some point if it makes id easier. even though its in the hedge at the end of my garden could it be a giant house spider?
Definitely not Angle Shades. It looks either very fresh and still pumping it's wings up, or has had problems hatching and it's wings are damaged.
First thought was that it's an Old Lady?
Sorry for the poor phone pic, does anyone know what this spider is?
I think it's a Comb-footed Spider - Enoplognatha ovata
Still looking for an ID for this critter, unless I've missed any posts with a definitive answer.
