Official Talk Leica thread

Finally put a roll through my M3 with the new 50mm Carl Zeiss Sonnar f/1.5. Thanks @justpix for your help earlier in the thread.

I really like this lens. The operation is smooth and much easier than my rigid Summicron. Very pleased with size and weight too. It's perfect for what I wanted it for. Results look really nice at "standard" apertures (i.e. over f/2) and I still have work to do to get that f/1.5 aperture nailed. I tried the focus shift thing, but I probably need to take a photo of a ruler to see if it's out and by how much.

This isn't really a very good image, the forum has softened it, and it was on Neopan 400CN which I developed in B&W chemicals because I couldn't wait... /excuses Will put some HP5 through next because that will sing.

Hi, @Harlequin565 I am sure you are going to enjoy the SONNAR. It is a beautiful lens. The focus shift might be used as a reason for buying a Leica with live view ;) ... ---

I lol'd at that one. I'm fairly certain my wife wouldn't.

Hi, bokeh again ... --- (SONY A7R2 - Elmarit 2,8/28 asph. v1 f 2,8 - Elmarit 2,8/28 ser#3634563).

I wanted to see if there is a difference between the aspheric and the non-aspheric version of a Leica lens.

Elmarit asph.:

Elmarit :

(To some, this might look like a study in advanced esoterics. But if you like a smooth bokeh, and/or do street photography, it may be relevant.

The bokeh of the aspheric lens looks fairly smooth. So, there is no compelling reason for me to take the non-aspheric version when going out ...

The asph. Elmarit is much more compact and Leica-like. On the other hand, if you are after a high performance 28mm Leica lens, you might consider the last version
of the Elmarit.

I showed version 1 ser# 4099925 of the aspheric Elmarit. I do not know if the current version is better (or worse).

Bokeh performance information of lenses from reliable sources is rare. The website optical limits covers this in its reviews.)

Hi, in Schwetzingen/D ... Leica M9 - :

ZEISS Sonnar 1,5/50 f 2,8 :

(The pics were taken on different days. But they may give some impression of the rendering. For the Sonnar I used f 2,8 because of focus-shift.)

Forever young! ... My dear Leica M6 - Leitz Summicron 2/35 bought in 1988 :

TP-LeicaM6-DSC00216-nex5-050-8.jpg

(It looks newer than my M9s ... But today many more pics are taken. In my film days, I used 1 film/day on holidays, being a "power user" avant la lettre ...

Today, one is worried, when going out that there are only 50 pics left on the card ... --- )

A review of the Distagon - comparing it to the Summilux 1,4/35 asph., too :

I have been waiting for something like this to find out if I really need the Summilux, too ... ---

Interesting. Singing the praises
2k euro new.
Now i will go search for a comparison between f1.2 voigtlander...

Hi, the VOIGTLÄNDER Nokton 1,2/35 is a good lens. I have version 1. - However, in the "Christmas-tree-bokeh-test" it showed harsh lights (onion-ring-like).

Maybe, later versions are better ... ---

We're (more or less) still allowed out here, and ontem nao tem chuva (no rain yesterday)

So I hopped on the Train down to Aveiro (The "Venice" of Portugal, which is a stretch frankly, but on the other hand I scored burger, chips and a pint in an English themed pub for less than a cup of coffee costs in the real Venice, so I'm not complaining)

There's more pics than the this but the forum is playing silly with how much I can upload...

All taken with the M240 and a mixture of the 50mm Lux and the 35mm CV Ultron - actually no, seems that 50mm ones are the ones the forum doesn't want to upload

Oh well at least it's a show case for the cheap little CV 35 :D

Hi, how to complement the Leica M viewfinder for WA/UWA lenses :

For 21-24-28mm lenses :

For 16-18-21-24-28mm lenses:

(I have both finders. The second one is called "Frankenfinder" by some. This is somewhat misleading. It does not find Franken (Swiss Francs( :D )), but the name refers to its size.

It is beautifully made, even has a kind of level gauge, but is big, and spoils the handling and the looks. I have used both finders once or twice, and never again.

They can be seen as a reason for buying a Leica M with live view ... ---

To end on a positive note: Both are delivered with beautifully made real leather pouches! )

(I gave the full Nokton specs, because mine is an early version. Later, there were two: SC and MC.)

keeping the files under 500kb seems to be the charm...

These are all shot on either the Zeiss 21, the voigtlander 35/1.7 and the 50 lux ASPH

and processed in LR using my I can't quite get it to match the look of the M9, but damn I'm getting close enough preset :D
