Hi, a CORVETTE showing Planar performance ... (M9 - ZEISS Planar 2/50 f 2,8)

On the first day in Schwetzingen, I used the Apo-Lanthar, on the second the Planar. I took the Planar because it is said to flare less than the Summicron.

Now, I am not so sure ... ---

Hi, so, maybe, there is sample variation, and I have a ZEISS with earlier coating. The flaring of the Planar surprised me, because ZEISS coating is said to be superior to Leica's.

On the other hand, I do not have an A-B comparison. Another 50 may have flared even more ..

My V5 ‘Cron flares if I’m not careful with it. I keep looking at the 50 Summilux and wondering if it’s worth the upgrade to one. I don’t shoot much wide open so 1.4 isn’t the be all and end all.

I have both and I suspect I use the cron more than the lux, the lux is crisper and more modern in its rendering though

This lens got the honorary title bokeh king in the past. Now in our PC days it should be bokeh king/queen/divers/undecided/etc ... ---

I was very surprised by the Planar exhibiting so much flare, I gather, pre the Contax Yashica tie up they (Zeiss) were doing some pretty good work with Pentax on SMC coatings.

I still have not got around to trying my C/Y lenses on the Leica M... One day ...

Hi, so was I. - But again, I did not have another 50mm lens with me, and do not have a comparison.

Well, there is no ceteris paribus, only camera, time, photographer and subject are the same, but on different days... ---
