Ok, on a bit of a high right now... ok let me paint the picture, ive only been really looking at photography seriously for a few months... (currently doing a photography diploma)
anyway
a few weeks ago i had to do my first portrait assignment, i used someone i dont know all that well and it went well, the mother loved the pictures, since then ive had several people ask if i could take photos of their kids, i explained i was still doing the course and for the time being i would be more than happy to get the expierence and reputation therefore i would do it, print photos at cost price for them and they could pay what ever they felt was appropriate for the service... if they didnt like it they dont have to pay, if they did like it i was thinking maybe i would get £20 - £30 out of it..... i saw the dad tonight, he said both he and his partner were thrilled to bits with the photos, were really chuffed, gave me £100 for my time and has asked me to photograph a 90th birthday party in a few weeks.....

I dont know what to do with myself

Lol

Have you registered with HMRC as self employed and got insurance?

Congrats, all of my work is via word of mouth at the moment. Only takes one good job for more to come in, all depends on the prices of course ;)

hahaha way to bust a high!!
very valid comment though!

Congratulations though, a good first step!

Right place at the right time comes to mind, and as they always say "you make your own luck in this world" and you have made yours.

Many congratulations, your on your way to becomming a proffessional for a living.

Well done. The first commission. Gives you a buzz, doesn't it? Now, you have a reputationm and set yourself a bar. Keep it up :-)

thanks for all the comments :D am still grinning ear to ear

I know this is the first time I've come across you and this is the first time you've come across me in here, but I have to say that is a lovely bit of news. It's a fantastic feeling when your work is well appreciated, let's hope the momentum does keep going for you.

All the best. :)

From little acorns so they say, congrats with the nice surprise payment, unfortunately the others may not be so generous.

I find that photographers undercharge quite often but sometimes the customer appreciates how you went about taking the shots and is very pleased with the results. They then show their appreciation by adding a little extra to the payment. Congrats on your first paid job!
