Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

I took a 12-100 f4 to the States this year, it is great if you don't need wider aperture or longer. I did also take my 300mm f4, for the eclipse.

I manage with my 8-25mm f4.0 mostly though I took my 40-150 f4.0-5.6 to Sicily

Another couple of shots shot from Buttermere a couple of weeks ago
OM1 and 8-25mm f4.0 tripod and soft ND grad in HHHR mode on a tripod. The HHHR mode has caused the clouds to blur in the first shot but I knocked off the HHHR and took the second shot less than a minute later. I could see something like this was happening in the Hi Res mode so I too some bankers without the Hi Res.

Yes and you can register it with OM also :)

I'm looking forward to testing it on the 90mm.. although it's freezing so may have to be on something inside the house lol

If you are shooting at 4:1 springtails are still around at this time year.

Especially with a 2X tele converter - superb.

A few early PP's for the Botswana trip

Just read that British Wildlife photographer Andy Rouse has now changed from the OM Systems brand and is now using Sony (using the A1 and on order the new A1 MK II). Andy was a stalwart of the Olympus (OM Systems) system and proved over many years that the size of the sensor didn't matter as much as field craft. However it seems his agent is forcing this as many of the advertising agencies are demanding more resolution and bigger files. Andy has "apparently" said, that he doesn't see OM Systems addressing this anytime soon, and as he's a working pro, he's had to take a decision that most helps his business and and kept emotion out of it.

Shame, as I think photographers like Andy and Petr Bambousek really helped to elevate the brand on the world stage (certainly for wildlife photography where OM Systems seems to think is it's main niche) ?

IIRC it is not the first he has changed systems/brands for potentially financial reasons and possibly won't be the last!

Yes I would imagine its whoever crosses his palms the best tbh. Which is fine. If you are in that position then take it imo. A lot of his wildlife shots I have seen are staged (otter springs to mind) or in the can so I cant see going full frame would cause an issue either.

I seem to remember he was a Canon 'ambassador'?
Yes I remember talking to him at the Canon stand at The Photography Show. I also did an online event when he first changed to Olympus.

I asked him a question at the show and I don't believe he knew the answer. He gave me a bit of a shirty reply and thrust the camera at me, just as Chris Packham appeared... and he was lovely. I didn't mind him not knowing the answer but I felt he was rude and defensive. His photos are fantastic though.

Unfortunately all of these ambassadors are governed by one thing ,how much they can make out of the deal . And Sony being a major player in the field will be handing out very large backhanders indeed .. I’m quiet sure in this case if apple were the sponsors then a I.phone 16 would be the weapon of choice

This is so true.

I barely watch camera videos on YouTube these days as there is typically a sales push involved and I'm not changing or chasing the latest gear all the time.

I'll try and find videos that show me how to do something, like a panorama (I've never done one).

Too many videos on YouTube are driven by the tech. I don't care for the "why I've moved to Sony" or "micro four thirds in 2024" type rubbish.

Andy has had to take a bit of flak for his move to Sony in his recent video below I did comment and he got defensive with me about my comments which were based about the irony of the A1 new features which ironically OM have had for a while not the fact about his move to Sony.

Many of the reviews of the A1 follow the same theme of these new features at launch price of £6200 the overall features offered make me realise what incredible value the OM1 body is for what it offers

I have no issue with his move to Sony but I wonder how many more images will he sell with his superior camera

I've just scanned through some of the comments. He is very defensive isn't he...almost like he is being paid...

At the end of the day, all these pros and YouTubers will switch and say that the new system is better because xyz....because they are getting paid, got it for free or need the hits / subscriptions on their YouTube channel.

I only worry about what I need. I don't shoot wildlife and don't care what the chap does or doesn't do..that's up to him.

I'm into macro and was using the Lumix system for it. I can hands down say that the OM1 and 90mm is leaps ahead of the Lumix stuff.

Only met him the one time ,but we instantly clicked being from the same part of London and having the same sense of humor , we also share the same friends round this area , we met as equals and spent the afternoon together searching out the same target birds ( owls) . He is just a normal guy trying to earn a living , and my post above was really about reps in general who switch brands for their own benefit . .
But you never know if he decides to move his Olympus gear on then there might be a few bargains available soon LOL

Merlin at RSPB Greylake Somerset taken on the OM1 Mark 2 and 150-400

Sat at home feeling a bit under the weather so decided tidy up my lightroom catalogue found one of my favorites from 2023 I decided to rework the photo using Lightroom Masking something I didn't have clue about back in 2023 but I am gradually getting to grips with and it has improved the photo mainly on sharpening the owl. This was at the time a quiet heavy crop whilst I am not one for heavy editing this one deserved a bit of effort

Nice pair of shots
