I'm sure you'll love the M.Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8 Pro mines never off the camera as is my 24-70mm on my D750.

Am having a dilemma about my kit as I am starting to shoot more at the bmx track and the hit rate is lower than my (just) 13 year old gets with his d3100+18-105. Am also not happy with the DR really - shadows go mushy quite quickly. There's far too much noise in LE shots.

So I started thinking about my old Nikon and what's about now. D500 / D750 etc would be good but then I'm back into lugging a lot of weight around so I'd have to carefully consider my kit.

Or do I just wait for the e-m1 mk2 and see what happens with that ?

The Fuji XT2 looks promising for AF, so possibly an in-between camera from M4/3 > Nikon?

I recently bought a GX80 as a lightweight option over my D810. I have now sold it after three weeks use as it's not for me. I'm also considering the Fuji XT2 which is due for release on Thursday 8th and a few have ordered from this site, so will be nice to get user reviews over the coming weeks.
 
Yes, I watched a few videos of the XT2 last night - it seems promising but the e-m1 mk2 is due to be announced 19/9 so I'll wait

What am I going to gain in an E-M5 over an E-M10, both mk1's. IS 5 axis over 3 axis and weather proofing I know about.

ive got the mk 1 "10" it works really well, the 3axis works great the only thing i would like on it, is the in-body ability to stack focus i think this is only on the top end and/or the new version i don't think the mk 1 "5" adds much worth getting over mine. i might upgrade at some point but its more about want than need, lets face with it most non-pro togs this is the case

I think the two things you mention are about it. The EM5 was on the market for quite some time before the EM10 was released and so even though, the EM10 was meant to be the baby of the range it benefited from a few mod cons, wifi being one obvious example. I think the controls feel better too which was presumably based on feedback from EM5 users. There's a good post on this thread with some insight from an owner of both:

I think I'd be tempted by the EM10 unless weather proofing is important to you.
 
Wilkinsons have the mk1 M10 with pancake lens for £399. Before I buy from them, has anyone come across this cheaper any where else.

I have an old Zenith boxed up in the attic I also have 2 rolls of Agfaphoto Vista Plus from Poundland (they have loads of rolls), now could be the right time to go into the attic and grab the Zenith.

The OM2sp has had film through it but needs more.
 
Off to Iceland at the end of this month and looking to buy 1or2 polarising filters but unsure which lenses I will use most and therefore which lenses to buy a filter for. Looking at obviously a lot of landscape photos and going whale watching. Lenses I have for my EM-10 are Pana 20 mm, Oly 45mm, Tamron 14-150 zoom, Pana 12-32 zoom. Don't want to spend the earth on them but Amazon Hoyas which get decent reviews.
Any other tips for the trip would be appreciated. Thanks
 
I am looking for a black half case for the E-M10. But as it will be a birthday present, I don't want to go to the expense of a Kaza or Gariz or to a cheapy off Ebay.

Has any one come across any others ? I am sure I saw one on Love Cases for about £30 the other day, but can't seem to find it now.
 
Managed a lowly 197 shots from a full battery charge yesterday. I have spares but that's pretty poor

I wonder why battery life is so bad? My Sony SLT (not very different from the Olympus except for sensor size and fixed mirror) has done about 830 shots this holiday from a single charge and still has 40% left.
 
No idea ( unless it's to do with raw files too ? ) on Friday I took 557 shots and used all 3 batteries completely. I'd even turned receiving off
 
Sony ARW files are 20-21MB each. I have IBIS on and there's no wireless, focussing mostly from in-body motor drive and using EVF for viewing. I usually turn the camera off between shots, which might make a difference if you leave it switched on all the time.
 
Was turning it off too - I was drag racing so there's always a few minutes between races.

Maybe I need to turn the rear screen off..
 
Mine is active when the camera isn't against my eye. I had also been reviewing a few images, so could have saved even more charge if I'd not done that. The battery seems quite small in these, but the Sony is 1650mah - I've just realised that this is on the cheap Maxsima 'spare' rather than Sony original.
 
*Personally* I'd go Sony in your situation - speaking as a D610 owner as well as an alpha 58 owner - but I'd prefer it to have the MAF mount, rather than the E mount of the A7. However you'd probably really like the tiny size of the A7 series.

D610 is leaps and bounds ahead of the OMD cameras for noise, especially once normalised to 16mp and especially in maintaining dynamic range and full colour depth.

But, and it's quite a big but, that unless you shoot sport or birds it is only half the story as the IBIS allows you to shoot at lower ISO than you would with the D610 (unless you have a VR lens and even then do you have a fast prime with VR?).

Never had a significant problem with my batteries, but I know one is not much use, unless its just charged before going into camera....

They don't have very quick AF though do they ? That's part of my issue with the em1 and tracking moving objects

Buy a filter for the largest lens, and step down adopters so you can fit it on the other lenses.

TBH I find my APS-C Sony to be quite a bit better for noise than the E-M10 MkI at base ISO of 100/200 and 400. Above 400 neither are great, but the A58 is cleaner with better dynamic range.

The D610 is curious, because at base ISO 100 the images at 1:1 are grittier than those from the sony, but as the ISO goes up the grittiness doesn't degrade the images as much as colour noise from the sony and olympus sensors. Dynamic range is better on the D610, and also if I need to work the post-processing hard it takes longer to start generating halos compared to the other 2. The D610 offers potentially better image quality, but good lenses are expensive and it's a very bulky and heavy tool with clunky handling.

I'm happy to use the D610 to about 1600, and the Sony to about 400, while the Oly seems a little noisy even at 200 - lightroom cleans it up OK, but at the cost of detail.

Interesting. I love seeing your action shots on here and what you're achieving with m4/3's gear but I suspect you're probably having to allow for limitations much more than a reasonable DSLR. I'm mainly a landscape kind of guy and I found that the transition to m4/3 from FX Nikon (d610 at the time) for landscape stuff was a good move. I lose out in dynamic range (I can work around that with techniques) but the portability of the equipment brings so many more opportunities. However I do shoot the odd bit of motor-sport and I made the decision at the time to keep my very ageing and tired Nikon D3 and a 70-200 2.8 lens purely for the AF and noise performance. I just don't think the AF system works well enough on m4/3 but to give any sort of confidence when tracking movement. Sure, it's possible to get sharp shots with good technique and planning but I could never fully trust it to nail focus at the critical moment. I shot the great north run on sunday and my EM5ii was really getting confused tracking the elite runners even though there was nobody else around them at times. I would say a hit rate of less than 50%. I know the D3 would have nailed nearly all of them with ease. That said it does now feel utterly ridiculous carrying a D3 and 70-200 2.8. It's comically big in context of m4/3 gear.
