Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

I am now the stage of going through the images that I originally rejected from the Safari and have decided that I now quite like this one!

Certainly worthy of the second look and keeping it :)

And another few...

I might need more chocolate and wine now @Fordsabroad :ROFLMAO: BTW I love your giraffe licking his lips too.

All beautiful images and I will have a hard time picking a favourite:)

I've now put some of my pics on Flickr. It took me a while to remember how to do it! They are not of the same quality as some who have been there ;), and I still have many more to go through...
They are here if anyone is interested.

I've been having a dilemma on my editing. After using DxO Photolab for years, I'm finding a weird granular look to some of my images so I've gone back to my old Capture One 2022 for the moment. It is also quicker on my ageing Mac, but not so great for the noise processing.... so I'm resorting back to my even older Topaz Denoise for that. Both Photolab and the camera have had an update so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. Has anyone else noticed this?

Good morning Bebop.
I have just viewed your Flickr page and you have some lovely images from your trip. I particularly like the backlit monkeys and the buffalo and lion portrait. The 4 giraffes are super but I would lose the front one (that's just me though). Odd numbers look better in my opinion.
If you can get these images on your first trip just think what the next one will bring!! You will have noticed that one of my strengths is spending other peoples money!!

More superb pics Gordon @Fordsabroad. You have so many wonderful shots!

Yes that's an idea for a crop on the giraffes. None of them got too close to us unfortunately but I did find them hard to photograph. I'm feeling so overwhelmed with how many photos I've got to go through, I'm not sure about another trip yet!! :ROFLMAO: although I'd go tomorrow of course for the experience.

Great set so far on Flickr Bebop please keep them coming anyone who photographs wildlife would be happy with what you have published so far.

I hopefully will get to go on a safari in the next two years if I can keep the big C at bay and yours and Gordons work has inspired me to try and make it happen

Mazdaman. I hope you can keep the big C at bay, it is a terrible disease. If you can manage a safari I am sure you would love it. If it is just for pleasure then there are many companies that cater for that. If it is for photography then one of the specialist companies, like Pangolin or Zimanga etc are worth the extra cost. Pangolin run the odd special deal at a greatly reduced cost. Both Bebop and I managed to bag one but they don't advertise them widely. If it interests you then either Google "Pangolin specials" or email them and they should add you to an email list.
I am hoping that they put another one on in Feb, I fancy some winter sunshine!

Thank you for your kind words Terry. I do feel much of my photography was a case of 'almost' and 'not quite's :ROFLMAO: A friend being diagnosed recently was something that tipped me into being brave enough to make the trip happen. I really hope you do get there as it felt very special to me. Best of luck keeping it at bay.

I'm now really pleased that Mr. Bebop wasn't interested in a safari because otherwise I would have done an ordinary one and not had the same photo opportunities that this one offered. There was a non photographer in my group accompanying his wife, but I'm not sure all partners would be so content. He sat there with the loaned Canon 90D (I think) and Sigma 100-600 + converter and often got better shots than us more experienced photographers. That was annoying :ROFLMAO:

Three from an hour in The New Forest this morning. The last two are not technically great (high ISO & heavy crops), but I thought they may be of interest.

Loving the light and background with the robin. Oh dear, does the Nuthatch have a tic on it? That Bluetit must have a hard time feeding too :(

I love the family portrait @Fordsabroad. Not the same lovely pose, but I wonder if we saw the same baby?

Love the oxpecker on the giraffe too.

We took a break when in the Landcruiser and some smaller (Vervet?) monkeys tried to raid my camera bag - luckily didn't steal anything although they pulled a few things out, and they ran off with someone's plastic lunch box - containing batteries which ended up all in the sand... little monkeys :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Some super Africa shots from you two

Bebop, you have lovely family shots of the monkeys. The coffee stop you had is well known by the monkeys who loiter there ready to pounce. Apparently the occasional lion has been seen there as well!

Appreciate how you’ve left the shadows natural and not attempted to lift them

They look pretty super to me.(y)
That's very kind. I am pleased with some of the shots, but I couldn't help feeling I kept just missing the shot I wanted... too zoomed in.... not zoomed in enough... not enough depth of field etc. or just plain record shots. I've now deleted over 5k shots  :$ Sometimes I accidentally left it on pro-capture and have so many of the same shot that I didn't intend  :ROFLMAO:

Here are some I am quite pleased with, although the eagle background is not ideal. I took hundreds of the Yellow-billed Kite. Many were out of focus. I'm not sure if it is my handling of the lens, the latest firmware update, or most likely just me, but the bird focus didn't seem to work as well for me as it had previously and so I switched to the usual AF . Perhaps it just works better on the 300mm f/4?
