Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

What better way to ' kick start ' your waning interest in photography than buy a new camera ? well in my case as I long time user of Panasonic M 4/3rds I am awaiting delivery of the OM Systems OM-5 mk ii + 12-45 f4 Pro lens.

I am a long time user of DXO Photolab to convert my raw files, in my instance I am using Photolab version 3 which is pretty dated and will not work with the OM-5 mkii ORF files.

So do I purchase the latest version of Photolab at a cost of £220.00. :oops: :$ I have tried a trial version of DXO's Pure Raw which I cannot get to run on my 'elderly' Windows 10 PC.

What do other 'Olympus family' owners use to convert their raw files ? is the free OM Workspace viable ? I cannot trial it until I receive the OM-5 as I need a valid serial number.

Your opinions appreciated.
 
lightroom classic and photoshop ,constant updates works a treat

A perfect combination of camera and lens - my most-used setup.

For me, it's Lightroom Classic (desktop) all the way.
 
I use On1 PhotoRaw2026.4 for processing and OM Workspace to see how far I was from the subject with the focus point.
It does not always show the focus point, but I reckon that's when I'm not had the bbf button pressed. i.e focus and recomposed.
 
So sad days for me my SFN has declined so much that my bird photography won't be continuing
I am trading in my big beautiful EM1-X and stellar larger lenses 12-45 , 25f1.2,my favourite 100-400 ver1
So no bird photography for me.
I will post from my little Olympus omd em10 markii and 17mm f1.8, 45mm f1.8 and 60mm macro

Just a heads up, I’ve posted a new post in the wanted section. I’m looking for an OM 12-45 f4. If anyone is looking to sell theirs, let me know.

Sorry to hear this mark , have you considered part exchanging for a decent bridge camera something like a Sony rx10iv or the new mkv version or something similar
 
I have just bought a pen f and must say, I love it. It does have the old Olympus menu system, but as long as you only set up what you want and/or need it’s a lovely camera to carry around. Light and responsive, I do have the 12-40 lens, but bought the pancake 14-42 and have just ordered the [jjc?] automatic lens cap for it, which makes the whole set up an excellent every day camera. Still a bit expensive for a 10 year old camera, but I am really pleased with it. Complements my OM system and larger lenses.

I don't know if it's just me, but as I've been installing a new NAS and have been transferring all my images from the old one to the new one, it got me looking at some of my old images (especially all my holiday folders from the last 23 years, where each holiday has it's own folder).

I don't know if I am going mad, but I've been looking at movies shot with my long gone EM1 II & EM1 III, vs more recent holiday shots with the much newer OM-1, I actually much prefer the look of the movies on the older cameras. Obviously these older bodies never had the option of 10 bit so only shot in 8 bit, but to my eye the movies were "fuller" with much better colours and saturation (without looking overdone or over contrasty), rather than my OM1 which again at standard settings, tend to look a little washed out and flat.

I've also noticed that video I shot whilst walking on the EM1 II & EM1 III looked almost gimbal like (i.e. very smooth) where as good as the stabilisation is on the OM-1 (and on paper it's supposed to be better), I found that in walking shots, it's no where near as steady and does tend to jump around more ? Now I know when it comes to ergonomics, features, viewfinders and certainly AF, the OM1 is a considerable improvement on the older models, but I still think as I knew back then nothing about making videos so I literally just put the EM1's into movie mode and pressed the button, that the output is much nicer to my eye with very little (if any) additional grading needing to be done.

I don't know if it's something to do with the OM1's stacked sensor or that it now has so many additional controls over video settings that the older cameras never had, but honestly, I've watched over 50 short video clips and everyone shot on the older cameras look much nicer and smoother to my eye than the much more modern OM1.

Am I crazy, or has anyone else noticed this ?
