Hi All,

I am looking for some recommendations of photography gloves. I used to own a pair of Lowepro gloves, the ones with the rubber dots all over the palms and fingers, but I found these not so warm to start with and ended up buying a pair of lining gloves which I wore inside the Lowepros.

Last winter I last one of the gloves and have not got around to replacing them so I am looking now to see whats about. When I got the old pair there were not many options to choose from at all but now it seems there are lots so looking for recommendations of what you guys use/have used and what would you recommend or stay clear of?
 
I bought a par of Tog 24 Riga gloves last year and like them a lot. They are windstop with grippy palms/fingers. They also have conductive patches on thumb and index fingers for touchscreen devices..
 
Try a few army surplus or military supplies for sniper gloves. Often better than bespoke photographic gloves and can be cheaper. Generally come in green, sand and black colours. If you don't want red ones you'll be ok !
 
I can't easily operate a camera with any kind of gloves on which cover the ends of my fingers, but sometimes want to shoot in weather where a few minutes without gloves is a finger freezing ordeal which takes some time to recover from, especially now I'm old with poorer circulation. It's also very important not to let the hands get too cold -- once having frozen half the feeling out of my fingers I fumbled doing a lens change and dropped the camera on the ground. No harm done, but a scary warning.

I tried a few different kinds of gloves which let you expose the ends of your fingers without taking the gloves off. Photography gloves were ridiculously expensive. I ended up finding the cheapest warmest and most useful in a fishing tackle shop. They're mittens in which the mitten part over the fingers can be pulled off leaving the fingers underneath enclosed in little trousers which leave the finger ends free. The thumb has its own finger-end sock/hood which can be folded back just to reveal the thumb end.
 
I think most gloves u end up needing Liners, think ive got easy off photography gloves, and some liners off amazon, mine have forefinger and thumb fold back with magnets
 
Interesting discussion - I bought a very cheap set of three pairs of fingerless mittens from ebay and keep a set in my bag but I'm interested in exploring better options!

They don't appear to be available anymore? Only Riga product on the website is a neck gaiter.

Which type do you have - some are a lot more expensive than others!
 
I have some windstopper Lowepro gloves that are fingerless but with a mitten part that you can pull over the fingers and the thumb has it's own bit to pull over - sound similar to Chris Malcolm's. Mine weren't cheap, but I'd bought several cheaper thin gloves but didn't get on with them. They're okay for a UK winter football match, but I'm not sure they'd be warm enough it was sub zero. I might check out these Seal Skinz

Which model of Seal Skinz gloves did you both go for then? How do you find them for warmth, quality etc?

These seem to be the model listed for photography - http://www.sealskinz.com/UK/gloves/sporting-gloves-olive but at £50 seem extremely expensive?

Cheers never thought of looking at army surplus!
 
Goto go outdoors and buy fishing gloves! Neoprene and you can fold back the thumb and first two fingers! £6-£13 and you won't cry if you lose one!
 
I'll check when I'm back home - it was a couple of years ago, and I bought them in Black's I think. The closest models from their current range appears to be the all season or the all-weather riding gloves. I do remember them costing over £30, so a £40 RRP is likely for my ones. I'd hedge my bets on them being the all season equivalents. They are very warm - I last used them for photography last year. At one point we were awake through the night photographing Bryce Canyon in early November. It was -15C, there were ice crystals floating in the air and a reasonable amount of snow on the ground. Despite being out in that for several hours I was still able to comfortably operate my camera, and I'm usually the first to complain about being cold!
 
I use some north face e-tip gloves.ive used them a few times and my hands seem to be warm, much warmer than taking a glove off to use the photo apps on my phone when out in the cold. I got them in a sale on the north face website last year.
