Photoshop 'File Info' and Copyright Notice

When I check the image 'File Info' in Photoshop it gives all sorts of information including 'Copyright' details.
'File Info' shows:-

I am enquiring about the field 'Copyright Status', (shown as 'Unknown' in the image above) ... my question is, what is it necessary to do, in camera, to change the copyright status?
 
Gramps, There is a setting in the Camera Menue ……… under "Tools" on Nikon - were you can type it in

then it is added to the EXIF data and carried through

If that is what you are asking ……….. I think

Mine just defaults every time to "Copyrighted" in PS6 ……… must get it from the EXIF as per the camera ……..

The setting in my Nikon bodies in the Tools set up menu is Copyright information "on"
 
If you fill out the copyright field in your camera, the IPTC/Exif tag should set automatically to ©.
 
All my copyright info is filled in on my Canon 5D3 but that field is 'unknown' in Lightroom unless I change it when I import the photos.

That's a strange and superfluous term as it implies you have to take some action to get it copyrighted when in fact, the copyright already exists at the time of creation.

That's a strange and superfluous attitude considering the vast majority of the professional photographic market ensure that their IPTC fields are filled out correctly, in particular those relating to copyright.

Maybe you, as a vastly experienced professional photographer, know something that we don't?

I agree and I'm happy to be told another way around it, but in reality I set up the preset once and have never had to think about it again... until now :) It seems a bit bizarre that when all the copyright information is there, the status should appear as 'unknown'.

Sorry, it's late and I misunderstood - I thought you meant it was strange and superfluous that I set up a preset....when in fact I think you mean 'copyright status' is a superfluous term... I think it's time I went to bed. :exit:

Obviously it's a good idea to have all of your information attached so the copyright owner can be traced. It's just the word copyrighted which I find strange as it doesn't really mean anything.

That's the situation for me ... and from a bit more research it appears that any update to the IPTC/Exif by any other programme may well overwrite it completely and return the 'Copyright Status' to "Unknown". :thinking:
