Recommended external hard drives for permanent connection to mac mini

Sorry for the hijack, but it is related.

Any idea why my WD_BLACK SN770 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD, M.2 2280 NVMe SSD in the Acasis enclosure mentioned above, is now showing 40% of the speeds when I bought it just over a year ago. The connection is the same and it is nowhere near full.

Here is the 2T kingston Fury Renegade NVME M2 gen 4 drive in a NVME caddy
No where near the 7000mbs that you stated, that ends the confusion on my part.
Hmmmmmmmm well the drive's arrived and i've had to connect via usba to c as I cant seem to find a cable that will do thunderbolt to usb c :(

You should still get somewhere around 600mbs via USB3.

There is a work around that I have seen but it involves an Apple TB2/USBc adapter, the usb goes into your external drive. Then you need a male to male TB2 cable to go into the adapter and then into your Mac. TB1 and 2 are the same port but TB2 is faster.

I am not sure it’s worth the faff to get a modest speed gain on your external drive though.
