Regular remote shooting

I'm after a bit of advice if anyone has any :D

I'm thinking of setting up my camera on a tripod to shoot a series of photos, at a regular interval, but ideally without me behind the body pressing the shutter button.

I am aware that it is possible to remote the camera from a laptop, and I believe this software comes on the Canon CD supplied with the camera (I think), but does it allow setting up of regular automatic firing?

I'm working with a Canon 30D, I have a laptop running Win7, and I'm guessing I have the leads somewhere (providing the bundle of cables supplied with the camera included a remote camera to pc lead).

So have I got everything I need? Can the supplied software do what I need, or if not, how much will the required set up cost, and who has any recommendations of suitable software?

Cheers if anyone can help

Rgds

Depends where you are leaving your camera.

You could use something like this http://SPAM/624btsn

Canon do an 'official' version, I assume for more money.

No S/W required.

Not actually used one myself, but they look pretty straightforward.

You can do it without software and without the laptop by using a remote (wired or wireless) interval timer. Costs about £20-£40, I have one from Phottix that does the job nicely.. functions as a regular wired remote, interval timer (take a shot every x seconds/minutes for y times) and will take fixed length exposures in bulb mode (take a shot of z seconds/minutes duration). It will also do combinations of the above (take a shot of z seconds duration every x seconds minutes for y times).

The same basic design seems to crop up with different badges on it.

I got a wired third party intervalometer from eBay for £15, not very good quality but it does the job well enough.

Ahh brilliant, thank you. Didn't even cross my mind about a remote release with a timer on it! I'll check out a few.

Thanks again.

The EOS Utility software that allows remote camera control (via a wired connection) has a interval timer function.
