Shooting at Florida School

The Florida School guard has made a statement. As I thought, in the confusion he didn't know where the shots were coming from

As I said earlier... anyone who thinks running in blindly is a good idea is an idiot. You are much more likely to make things worse or cause additional harm yourself rather than accomplish anything significant. About the best you could expect is to die in futility.

trump said he would have run into the school even if he didn't have a weapon :D

Very true. And people also need to understand that if you point a gun at someone there needs to be an intention to kill them (or at least an acceptance that you may kill them and may also kill innocent people) which requires an attitude of mind that very few are likely to have - I'm pretty sure that I couldn't do that - and firing a gun accurately, when every fraction of a second may count, is nowhere near as easy as it looks in the films, when the good guys never miss and can hit any target at any distance without even aiming, and where guns never jam or run out of ammo...

I've said before I think the guard is being unfairly blamed.

Cruz was in the building 7 minutes according to reports. By the time the nearing retirement guard had got to the building, was receiving conflicting information, I suspect he was getting reports of shooting everywhere. Until we know what he was being told, I suspect he made the wrong decision based on all the conflicting reports.

The Sun Sentinel also reports that three other deputies waited outside, which makes me think they were getting told the shooter was outside not in buildings.

The CCTV operator was feeding the police reports from a 20 min delayed video and didn't realise. There were reports from students phone calls from all over the campus, sounds echoing off buildings. I'd expect he was in communication with a control room and was being fed all these reports, leading to the confusion.

Length of a school hall, pistol vs AR15, knowing that the US mostly shoot practice pistol shooting at 5-10m ranges and the ease of shooting an AR-15 accurately, there probably would have been one more dead if he'd have encountered Cruz

The Sun Sentinel have a timeline. I doubt the guard was outside for very long, or the shooting had stopped/was minimal by the time he got there?

Can someone arrange for Trump to be unarmed and near a shooting, hopefully he'll do as he said he would and run straight in.

He could do it, and survive, armed or not.
You're forgetting the huge cadre of heavily armed agents that're obliged to follow him everywhere and ensure his safety.

And at an inflated cost, if he's golfing.

Failed to stop Reagan getting shot ;)

So to protect the many it's acceptable to sacrifice the few? Sounds like a line out of Star Trek, hang on it was a line out of Star Trek, which if memory serves me correctly was a work of fiction.

Florida actually passed a law on gun reform
https://www.politico.com/states/flo...chool-safety-bill-after-lengthy-debate-301839

The bill offers stricter gun control measures by raising the age limit for purchases from 18 to 21 and requires a three-day waiting period for the purchase of all weapons. There's also a ban on bump stocks, which make the rapid shooting easier.

The bill also includes money for school districts to hire more school resource officers, and programs that beef up mental health services. There is a provision that expands the powers of law enforcement by allowing them to temporarily suspend someone's gun rights if they are admitted for psychiatric evaluation under the state Baker Act. They could also petition a court to extend the suspension of powers over the 72-hour life of the Baker Act to 60 days.

Perhaps the most controversial provision is the Aaron Feis Guardian Program, which would deploy highly-trained school employees under the direction of the sheriff in each county. It was named after a Stoneman Douglas assistant football coach killed in the attack.

The last bit is why some on both sides wouldn't vote for it. It still has to be signed by the state governor before it becomes law

7000 pairs of childrens shoes have been laid out on the Capital Lawn to memorialise the children killed by gun violence since Sandy Hook
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-brief...-shoes-placed-at-us-capitol-to-honor-students

There's a huge walkout of schools planned for today. Children will walk out of school for 17 minutes to represent the 17 students killed. Theres a march on Washington planned for later this month as well.
The students are making it very clear they will be due to vote in the mid terms or next elections

Nickleodeon went off air for 17 mins yesterday whilst the student staged their walkout - well played.

LA students spelt out enough with their bodies

Mr Alexander was planning to use the gun to demonstrate of how to disarm someone.

Thats not a lesson - surely. The lesson is teaching the kids how to run, fast

You never put live rounds up the spout unless you're planning to shoot something.
If you're teaching people to wrestle for a weapon, you use a replica.

You know that, I know that, but you know, those gun ho americans. I mean, they've got them for protection. No doubt he's been told that delay in sticking a round in the chamber would make all the difference. After all, you've got a safety...

Fox News host and ardent trumpette Laura Ingraham returned to her show after a week off following her spate with David Hogg, the 17-year-old Parkland shooting survivor turned gun control activist.
David Hogg organised people to contact her advertisers, and she was forced to apologise to Hogg after many companies withdrew their advertising.

Rather than drop this, she returned to her attack last night claiming "Their efforts are Stalinist, pure and simple. Their objective is a total transformation of American society not through rational discourse and open debate, but through demonization and silencing,"

More advertisers are now dropping her
Slimfast earlier this week: http://thehill.com/homenews/media/382501-slimfast-drops-advertisements-on-laura-ingrahams-show

Red Lobster announced they are pulling adverts now. Thats the 26th advertiser lost

Well done David Hogg.

He had his AR-15 confiscated then returned after he was found with it near the White House...
