Yes
One of my old school mates just got her daughter photographed in what she called a 'professional photo shoot'. I saw the results just now, and have nothing good to say about them. They are lit poorly, composed even more poorly, and I'm surprised anyone calling themselves a professional photographer could produce such ....rubbish. Obviously I can't post up an example because they're not my photographs, so you only have my word to go on.

But would you keep out of the situation? Seems sad thats she's paid a lot of money for appalling photos?

Kind regards

Sarah

The real question is "is she happy with them?". If she is then dont say anything, what good would it do? If she isnt and genuinely doesnt like them then you have nothing to lose.

Ah...well it would appear she likes them. :cuckoo: Oh well each to their own I guess.

Maybe she just doesn't know what can be achieved - an opportunity for you to enlighten her by example?

For me it would depend how much she paid. If you think she has been conned out of so much money as to be bordering on a criminal offence it might be worth mentioning...

This is the thing, to the untrained eye they may look good, and as said, if they are happy then let it be. You wouldnt want to come across bad by saying that you think they arent very good. Maybe suggest taking one of her to show the difference if it does come up. If they ask you, then you have to make the choice, maybe you could be a bit tactful about it and say that you would 'do it differently'.

Again, if they are happy, then I would leave it alone, not worth bringing up, just dont let them go back there again, and as said, maybe do them yourself.

I agree, if they are happy with the results you will only come across badly if you say anything.

I think the nicest thing for you to do is either do a better job for free in the future, without directly offering a comparison, or quietly keep it to yourself - she will be proud of the shots I suspect and nothing good can come of you making her regret her purchase.

Gary.

Yes. If she's happy with the shots why ruin that? She'd never get her money back anyway.

Agree with all of the above Sarah.
The photos are worth whatever she was prepared to pay for them, and if she's happy with the result don't spoil it. What would saying something to her achieve, other than upsetting her?

We've had a few people getting married in work over the last year, and even though they've been absolutely over the moon with their wedding shots, they've not been of a standard that I would want for my own wedding.
Sometimes it's kinder just to say nothing.

I think offering to do a photo shoot for her in the future (unrelated to this one, and maybe put it across as being practice for you) is a great suggestion.
That way she can make up her own mind about what sort of quality she expects from a photo.

I paid over the odds ( well over ) for rubbish RUBBISH pictures in a studio (of our twins) because my wife wanted them. There is WAY too much flash so things like hair are blitzed and you can not see the detail on the edges of the head, they are all blurred because they were out of focus or the photographer cropped so heavily, and they are just really poorly shot in general by someone who did not have a clue about photography. The fact that she did not have a clue was evident in everything she did right down to her poor choice of clothing which exposed her butt crack every time she went down to shoot the kids from low level.

I was fuming on the inside. However, I kept my mouth shut and my wife absolutely loves those photographs. So, while I paid over the odds in comparison to what we could have got if we had gone to another photographer, my wife is happy and that is the only reason I was there in the first place. I figured there was nothing to be achieved by telling her that we could have got much better photo's elsewhere so I left it alone, grinned, and went with the flow.

I would not tell your friend :)

Well have you been asked for your opinion? If I was just shown them but not asked for an opinion then I wouldn't comment but if I had been shown them and asked "what do you think?" then I would have to say something.

Yes tell. People paying good money for crap photo's to a pro deserve pro photo's.

Far too many people passing themselves as pro's getting away with crap work.

Far too many people like 'crap photos'. When I see pics people post on FB and the like, I can see even crap pro pics looking ok in comparison.

I'd not say you dislike the photos, however I imagine if she liked it she may go back again.

If you know someone else around who does this well, and fancy a go yourself, I think you should suggest next time they want some to contact you - you can then send them to get 'even better' images or do them yourself...

I think you should try and intimate somehow that you think they could be even better than they are (as opposed to they are not good now). If you say nothing, especially with growing kids, she may realise in the future once they are all grown up and it's too late...
