of course a prime will focus quicker than a zoom..
if they were back focusing, did you not send them off for calibration? although Ive never used one personally i know 4 or 5 people that do and would disagree with your comments. its certainly on my shopping list.
An honest opinion
However the other issues were and are a major issue for me, very soft at 2.8 in fact you need to open up to 5.6 or above for the lens to work well, rather defeats the point really.
cheers
You must have got a bad copy
Mines fine wide open, and I've had no focus problems with it yet. I did send it back to Sigma to get it rechipped, but that was because it wouldn't work with my D3 in FF mode, kept thinking it was a DX lens.
LOL I had two:nuts:
As you have not owned this lens it is difficult for you to comment, no offense meant. If you are looking at static shooting it will be fine. none taken.
however those people i mention all use the 120-300 for motor sport and the pics they have produced show no defect like you suggest so I'm passing that on for the OP's consideration.
£1800+? If you can get a new one for that price, please tell me where!!!I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, not at £1800+ though the price is a bit these days

I heard yesterday that one of our customers had had his car broken into and one of our Sigma 120-300s was amongst the items stolen. So I was looking at the cost of replacing it. It seems really hard to find anything for under about £2300. Bearing in mind that in April last year I bought two of these for £1250-£1300 ... I know prices have gone up this year, but this really does seem a bit extreme. I'm really not sure I want to spend £2300+ replacing it - I'm not convinced it's really worth that much.
True. But fracster is a Nikon man, and the Nikon version at Mifsuds is £2379. Amazing.Canon mount £1,977.00 from http://www.mifsuds.com/acatalog/ActChange.htm
