It has been a while since I started this thread and since anyone posted in it but I thought it may be useful to update it.
When I moved from Canon to Olympus (now OM System) in late 2019 my lighter weight cameras and lenses made my Gitzo Series-3 tripod and Fluid Head a bit overkill and so I sold my big tripod and intended to sell my Gitzo Fluid Head .... But I got lazy and then forgot I even still had it!
I bought a Flexline Pro instead and mounted it on Gitzo Traveller GT2545T carbon legs. Whereas the compact and very practical Flexline has served me well it does not have the loose qualities of a proper gimbal and so I am definitely going to sell it.
My garden at home is a wilderness very consciously designed to be so and attracts all sorts of wildlife and consequently I have for a long time had a small Jobu Jnr-3 Delux gimbal mounted on a Platypod base sat on my window cill behind a camo net curtain. This Jobu is excellent and is a strong gimbal which easily fits in a rucksack to either mount on a Skimmer or the Gitzo Traveller tripod.
So, short story long, after rediscovering my Gitzo Fluid Head I now use it mounted on my Platypod on my window cill hide instead of the Jobu gimbal. Plus its 'fluid' style resistance, especially when using the panning arm, is perfect for this application as the camera will also safely and reliably stay in position without locking.
Furthermore the only lens I mount on it is my Olympus 150-400mm TC PRO (300-800mm equivalent without engaging the built-in 1.25x or mounting a 1.4x or 2x TC). This supertelephoto lens has an Arca-Swiss foot which perfectly and very securely fits the Gitzo Fluid Head's excellent L-cradle design. It's very smooth indeed to quickly mount/unmount the lens and the balance is also easy. Thank Goodness I was so lazy about selling it!

I now understand why some of us have so many tripod/monopod heads!
