Briony,
I know that you're trying to improve your pet photography too, so why not try to incorporate that into your 52?
If you're stuck for inspiration have a look at Leanne (Shorty)'s 52 from last year. She used pet shots for a lot of the themes and you can really see how they develop over the course of the year.

As for this week, I can think of a few ideas off the top of my head :
No matter how rural your location is you must have a road, track or something
leading to the house and that can justifiably be used as a street for the purpose of the 52. How about a shot of the dog sat in the middle of a deserted track?
Dog posed with Monopoly board; or maps; or newspapers (Fleet Street)
Dog looking longingly at a tin of Quality Street
Street-wise - OK I know you're in a rural location, but we can pretend you have a bust street outside and it wouldn't be wise to take the dog out without its lead. So how about dog waiting for walk by front door and collar and lead somehow incorporated into the foreground?
. . . these are just off the top of my head, and I'm sure if you give it some thought you can come up with some more imaginative ideas.
