The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Be no more lenses for me for a few months. Roof on the house is getting done soon, after it started leaking yesterday that's a few grand that could be better spent.

Sony newbie here, coming from 10 years with the Canon 7D... Picked up my mate's A7iii + 24-105 f4, he's upgraded to the A7Riv + sigma 24-70. Been wanting to go full frame for years so finally made the leap, my only regret is not doing this sooner :ROFLMAO:

Cracking images being shared by some of you on this thread, loving it.

That's a big bill, my car isn't even worth that :ROFLMAO:
Feels like I should buy a new car but it's such a waste of money!

Car tax £330
Service, MOT + fixing rear suspension arm - £520

Stripping car floor, interior to dry, replacement of rear light cluster and investigate where the leak is coming from - £600 (this is a quote)
Replacing windscreen - £160.

I guess about £1600-1700 total.

The last 2 is still not done yet, it is currently in the garage. Windscreen getting done on Monday. I have no intention of replacing this car just yet, mechanically it's fine, and the windscreen leak is a well known issue on the C30.

Ah! I see why you were asking about weather sealing on Sony cameras....

My car month is in August.
£150 road tax, £350 insurance, £200 - MOT+service. All in all sets me down £700-800 every year.
My car is worth like £200 lol

 :$ £520 for a service and an arm is pricey.

I had a full service, timing belt, water pump, an arm and a new thermostat done a few weeks back for £450.

Tbh, it has never failed an MOT, I keep things quite tight before it fails but the leak was only evident when it got too bad as the water went down the A-pillar to under the car below the carpet and sounds insulation. But since the new year i notice the car started to steam up constantly, and in early Feb i had ice inside the car with the water on the inside window froze. I started to place loads of humidity gel packs in the car thinking it was just the winter with high humidity. It helped a little bit but when i lifted up the carpet….

Not an arm, rear suspension arm, they do them in pairs. I think they are £60 each side + VAT x2 and the labour.

Normally service and MOT is about £300.

Obviously depends on the car and service, one of my services is £1200

Welcome aboard Chris - it's nice to have a tool where you don't keep thinking "I wish my camera could do ******* a bit better".

What sort of car is it? £300 for a service is pricey. I get mine done by a local VAG specialist a standard service oil, filters and plugs is £150. Here garages don’t do MOT it’s all ran by the government an MOT test is £30.

Volvo C30 T5, it's done at the specialist, not the dealer either. I looked into a dealer service, it's about the same but it's also in another town, not one near me.

£60 of that £520 is also labour looking for the leak.

That could only be at the stealership. My wee brother has an Audi R8. Audi quoted him around that for a full inspection service. My local VAG specialist did exactly the same service for him and they also update the electronic service record for £250. To be fair our local VAG specialist is amazing he was a senior tech for VAG for 20 odd years before opening his own shop.

I think I prefer the way we do it here. Giving garages the ability to do MOT is just allowing them to stitch people up.

Insurance January, MOT was April (now July due to Covid) Tax I pay monthly, Escort insurance September, MOT October. Not too bad for me really.

I would rather do the tax on my cars monthly as well saves the hassle of having to remember to do it again each year. We can’t do ours online the way you can in the U.K it has to be done at the post office. My daily driver I just do annually as it’s only £30.

Yes, dealership prices. One of the joys of buying a car on PCP

Another good reason not to do car finance. While finance can be good for a lot of people. I would never by a brand new car so I just always buy outright. I don’t like getting finance for anything though. I don’t even have a credit card just a debit card. Although I have 2 mortgages.

My wife's car is on PCP and doesn't have to be serviced by the dealer.
My company car is leased through Hitachi Capital and they won't pay for a dealership service....

None of them do although most of them will tell you differently they will say it will affect warranty etc. If you can find a good independent that is recognised by the manufacturer it’s usually a lot cheaper and won’t affect warranty you can’t always do that easily though well not here anyway. If it’s Mercedes, BMW, or VAG there is tons of them even here.

To be honest the car had a 3 year warranty and a 2 year service plan, so when the 3rd service was due the warranty was just ending....

That’s not to say I wouldn’t like a brand new car I just couldn’t justify it. I have debated leasing a car a few times as I could put it through the business but I am a bit old school when it comes to finance. If I can’t afford to buy something I just don’t get it.

Probably just as well really with Covid etc having such a big impact keeping my monthly outgoings low has helped me manage it a lot easier.

Many years ago (at least 8 years ;) ) my now ex wife's Vauxhall Zafira (I think!) had tax the end of December and both insurance and MOT within the first two weeks of January!

Are you sure it’s PCP and not lease?

That’s not strictly true. When you enter PCP they give you a GFV, and in order to keep in line with the GFV they can stipulate the car has to be serviced at a main dealer so you need to check the small print.

Some people think you have to have the car serviced at a main dealer to keep the warranty but this isn’t true if it still has the manufacturers warranty, you only need to use genuine parts. However, if you buy used with a used approved warranty then they can stipulate you have it serviced at a main dealer as the used approved warranty is actually an insurance product.

I just lease mine and pay £25 a month maintenance, which covers tyres, servicing and another bits and pieces. All done at main dealer. I don’t pay the tax either as the car isn’t mine.

I had two punctures within a month of each other and they replaced the tyre within 2 days.

Yeah,
She intends to pay the final payment though and keep the car this time.
I keep saying I’m going to do this but never do :banghead:

My last two PCP’s have stipulated that servicing is done through main dealer, but my last two haven’t been new so have no manufacturers warranty so both the PCP finance (main dealer) and used warranty can both stipulate main dealer service. Doesn’t bother me though as long as I get a good deal on the car initially and I get the car I want (y)
