I am waiting for a 50mm f/1.8, have been for about 3 yearsNo, I'm all set on lenses. A new 50mm f1.8 would be a nice edition though.

Another G lens coming?
Sony will announce a new G lens in February? | sonyalpharumors
Another sources told me that Sony is likely to release a new "G" lens in February. And it is related to this lens and this lens. What do you make out of this info? ;)www.sonyalpharumors.com
I think I'd like to see a 28, 35 or 50mm F1.8 G of similar build and optical quality to the 20mm f1.8 G or a 28 or 35mm mini f2.5/f2.8 G. If it's anything else I doubt very much I'll be interested.
Anyone hoping for anything?
A small 16-35mm f4 with a manual zoom would be nice, I'm not a fan of the PZ.It’s a zoom.
Pretty sure it will be a longer focal length to match the other 2 lenses.A small 16-35mm f4 with a manual zoom would be nice, I'm not a fan of the PZ.
Which other two?Pretty sure it will be a longer focal length to match the other 2 lenses.
16-25 f/2.8 and the 25-50 f/2.8Which other two?
Hi all, on the subject of the 50mm f1.8 am I the only one that isn’t overly impressed with this lens? It’s sharp but the focus is really noisy and relatively slow and the purple fringing (excuse my lack of the correct terminology) in bright sunlight is really bad.I am waiting for a 50mm f/1.8, have been for about 3 yearsHave been trolling Sony on social media for ages about it and their rep.
No, I don't think so - the comments above are because it has such a bad rep people want a replacement.the only one that isn’t overly impressed with this lens

The Zeiss 55 and the 50/2.5 mini G have good reviews/opinions.

I actually forgot I bought this lens but similarly found the focus slow and noisy so just ended up not using it.Hi all, on the subject of the 50mm f1.8 am I the only one that isn’t overly impressed with this lens? I would deffo buy a 50mm f/1.8 if one was available. Even if it was as good as the 35 f/1.8 and similar size I would get it.I've been thinking of selling my 55mm f1.8 and just doing without but if they do bring out a decent 50mm f1.8 I might well get one. I know they do a budget one now but I've stayed away as some have reported slow focusing and if that's the case I think it'd be pretty poor on my A7 as the 50mm macro was basically unusable on the A7.
I have been thinking of having quite a severe clear out as I have lenses I haven't used much at all, 35mm f2.8 hasn't been used since I got the 40mm f2.5 and 35, 55 and 85mm f1.8's get used very infrequently ditto the 28mm f2 and I might have used the 28-70mm about four times.
Have asked Sony for a 50 f/1.8 but while the old one continues to sell in large numbers they don’t seem interested.
It is trash
Seems a decent update considering. That being said I doubt any of the new features will benefit meSony A1 V3 firmware available

Doesn’t seem that long ago this thread was full of people complaining about focus bracketing on the A1 and demanding Sony add it or they would be jumping ship. For those there you go it’s there now I guess.
I think the only firmware us A7 users can hope for is a message telling us to add a new piece of coal when required.
It's for the A9 series that update, they're global shutter sensors so I'd not expect any problems there (I've worked extensively with sony global shutter sensor machine vision cameras).Shooting up to 1/80000 at all apertures, wonder what the catch is IQ wise.

I was just going to say I missed this on the update list, but just seen the other replies saying it's for the A9Shooting up to 1/80000 at all apertures, wonder what the catch is IQ wise.

I've never actually hit the shutter speed limit yet, even shooting at f1.2.
Yeah been using for about a year or more. No issues at all. Some of the more expensive CF-A cards are a bit faster read speed but then again they are more than twice the price. Can get two Pergear Standard 256gb CF express A cards for £128.80 delivered

Really interesting. Was just about to go for the Sony 960gb - with £100 cashback and a bit if haggling, was looking at £400. But £140 for 2x 256gb is very attractive!Yeah been using for about a year or more. No issues at all. Have quite a few of the these cards now and while buy more when I need them.
That is a great price for them.

Looks a good deal on the card, depends how much you want the 960gb card really versus two 256gbI'm considering buying a lens second hand that was released early 2024. I've got two options:
Ebay seller: lots of engagement over messages, fully trust him. He bought it second hand from wex in 'as new' condition and is still the same. Comes boxed, but obviously no warranty.
Camera shop: graded 9/10, no box but comes with original front and rear caps and hood, as well as 6 month warranty. Have haggled on price to match eBay and also added in a 960gb sony card with £150 off too.
What would you do? Think it's a question of box and 'as new' vs 6 month warranty and 9/10.
Really on the fence on this one - please help me fall one way or the other!
Sounds about right - when I first got my 85 f/1.4 on my A900 (base ISO 200), I found I was slightly overexposed on a bright day wide open at max shutter of 1/8000, so you're in the same sort of overall exposure as that. When I was mucking about at 1/32000 on a bright summer day I was surprised even wide open at F1.8 I was needing isos between 1000 and 1600.
Been using them for a while, no problems at all. I have the 880/400mb/s ones. Their card reader isn't great though, the card slot doesn't have a click lock and the card wobbles about a bit in the port and is not always recognised by my computer. Bought a Lexar one instead and that's much better. Can get two Pergear Standard 256gb CF express A cards for £128.80 delivered
