I’ve felt the same way about EV’s tbh, I’m a petrolhead at heart and the idea has always left me cold. It’s like when we went to Goodwood FOS the other year, we heard all the wonderful V8’s, V12’s, boxer engines etc etc and then you get an electric ‘whoosh’ go past, they just don’t stir any emotion.
All that being said, since deciding to take the plunge (for reasons mentioned above) and having driven a variety of EV’s now I can assure you they’re definitely not all the same, and some are much better than I’d previously thought. In typical BMW fashion it’s a better drivers car than the Audi SQ6 and Merc EQE imo.
Admittedly though my days of ‘drivers’ cars are long gone. Age, the state of the roads and the amount of cars on the road has pretty much wiped out the chance of driving for pleasure so it’s been more about practicality and luxury for some time now. I’ve got my motorbike of if I want fun, and I can look back very fondly and gratefully at the cars I’ve had in the past.
I wasn’t a fan of the iX styling to say the least when I first saw it, but like most Beemers the styling’s grown on me. I actually think it’s starting to make the X5 look a tad dated now, although I still love the X5, and I still think it’s prettier than the iX.
