I would stay native pal that what I am hoping to do..

Maybe one day Sony bring out w TC for the lens?
 
Just tracking and focus Owen yeah. I know if I go canon I lose tracking a little and at the long end it may not be very fast... What experience you got, don't you have a big canon lens
 
I would stay native for the best possible AF and AF tracking speeds.
Get the FE 70-200mm f4 for now and then opt for the G Master 70-200 f2.8 and TC when it comes out. :)
 
yeah I have 150-600 sigma sport and borrowed a canon 100-400 ii wouldn't use any of them for motorsport on a a7 body tbh hence why I have a 6d and a5dsr still ( not that I shoot anything like this at all maybe once or twice a year) a friend uses the sony 70-400 a mount on a7r ii he rates it ... 70-200 2.8 is ii performs quick with a7ii bodies but not enough reach when I have covered it
 
Yeah 70-400 is a good option but mega bucks.... I'll sit on it till I decide don't not need it till march anyway thanks
 
the metabones is perfect for portraits etc but motorsport is too quick for it to perform well imho ( although I haven't tried it)
 
different cameras tbh 5dsr is a great camera nothing wrong with it at all a7rii is a great camera BUT which would you carry for 12 hours a day at a wedding? lol

Depends on what combination of lenses you are using imo. Neither will be light with decent glass. After all, theres only 200g weight difference between the 7rii and 5dsr, 2 spare batteries and youre carrying the same weight.

Isn't your best option to hire the Sony and actually use it before then to find out for yourself?

It will cost you around £60 for a day hire including postage both ways but cheaper than buying one and finding it doesn't do what you want. Although, I've seen some excellent motorsport shots taken with manual focus glass so AF speed isn't always the only factor in getting good results.

I don't think two spare battery weigh 200g?

Anyways the 5dr doesn't do well in low light and as we all know. Doesn't have good Dr.

The 5d3 goes much better with an a7r2 imo as the 5d3 does decent in low light

I think they are 80g per battery.

But it does have better lenses, better battery life, better AF, better 3rd party support, more resolution and better build. Its all about weighing up the pros and cons and thats why 2 systems are better than 1.

But if you downscaled the 5dsr image you would find the noise is the same but the DR is better ;)

Well the 5d3 share same lenses tans af but has better buffer speed and better iso hehe.


I'll be taking both the 5d3 and a7r2 to Peru

But we werent comparing the 5dsr and the 5d3, we compared the 5dsr and a7rii.

Make sure you keep that A7rii out of humid places. Not worth the risk.

I never really clicked with the 5d3 hence the move to sony when 5dsr was announced I got one for weddings defo don't regret the decision......

the 5dsr is good at low light never had a problem I do have 600 exrt flash though for weddings etc

yet to do a wedding with sony but am this Saturday :) taking a7rii a7ii lenses and 5dsr as a backup will let you know how it goes

The thing that first got me 'concerned' was seeing reports of the A7 failing under light weather (and Sony pulling all evidence of weather sealing from their marketing), then I found bits more about A7rii failing under tbf some pretty harsh conditions, thats where I found that pros experience and advice. Thought it makes sense for you to see it as I remembered you were going on your trip.

Yes, in extreme conditions the a7r2 doesnt seem the tool for the job unfortunatly.

Also, yesterday when i was doing the shoot i had to change cards and i accidently put a slow sd card in it and f*** me it was painful shooting on that card but when your in a shoot u dont have lots of time to slow down and think though.

I do wish the buffer speed was faster.

in all honesty i think i would use my 5d3 for studio shoots as i dont need the DR and resolution atm but speed is what i need.

Just on conditions and cameras...

I don't know if I've used cameras in what could be called truly extreme conditions... I think that possibly the most extreme conditions I've been in are possibly the Eden project where it's very humid, Kazakhstan in both winter and summer where it was maybe -20 in the winter and probably the hottest place I've ever been in the summer and of course Thailand where it maybe wasn't as hot as Kazakhstan but was very humid.

In Thailand my Panasonic GX7 gave a series of out of focus shots at the Big Buddha when it was very humid and as it has never done so before or since I assume that something had fogged up. Interestingly the GX7 did work perfectly at a sort of mini Thai Eden project where it was extremely humid, as humid as the Eden project if not more so. When we went back to Big Buddha the next year my A7 gave perfect captures but one corner of the screen protector lifted and actually it blew off when I was on the beach the other week. As my A7 has survived Thailand once I wouldn't worry about taking it to Asia again :D

I think that the worst work outs I've given cameras is probably in the UK as I do tend to go out in bad weather for example my beach shots last week and one winter when I fell in a hole whilst walking in the hills in snow with my 20D. On that day for the first time in my life I decided that conditions were too dangerous to continue as the snow had drifted and I couldn't see the drops and holes (hence I fell in one.) On the walk back my trousers froze solid from the knees down and my camera looked like a block of ice as I'd been holding it when I fell and it got as covered in snow as I did but when thawed out it worked perfectly as did the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 which was attached.

I've never had a weather sealed camera but I've never had a failure. Maybe I've just been lucky. I'd take an A7 to Asia again in a heartbeat and indeed I will when we go later this year.

I've just bought an A7 and a couple of Canon FD lenses, what I'd like to know is how the A7 works with Canon EF lenses as I may be doing some second shooter work in the near future and the wedding 'tog uses Canon.

Personally wouldn't trust adapted lenses for a paid shoot - certainly not for anything where the subject moves.
 
just had a thought 24-240 for sport... what are advatgaes of the 70-200 over this 24-240..... anything specialist or just optically better
 
I'd be using a 5d mk2 and have the option of borrowing the odd ef lens for personal use and was asking if the performance is worth the cost of a good adapter....
 
I'm due to do a wedding this weekend with my a7rii and a7ii with a metabones and good l lens range..... I have done paid portraits with it no problem anything fast moving probably being realistic not going to go great... is yours just an a7 or a7i ( makes a massive diff to metabones performance)

Nice few bags of gear you have there. How is the 70-300 on a7rii?

Had another go with my tammy 150-600 with fotodiox yesterday. Fast af at 600mm. Can't get my head around how inconsistent the performance is.
