will be interesting to see if Nikon are prepping something thats going to compete also. once they sort out the autofocus im sure they will have something really appealing too.
We all know that 8k is just a attention grabbing headline.
For 99% of people it’s useless and in realistic.
On the storage side I saw one reviewer mention a 1tb cf fast card is £800 and even that isn’t going to get you more than 30min of footage.
When 90% of all media is consumed on a mobile even 4K isn’t really needed.
We all know when twist changes camera/ brand the new one becomes god’s gift to the camera world and the last becomes redundant and scrap.. no one screams from the rafters more.
Hopefully they are able to compete with Sony and Canons announcements. Dont think they can take losing much more business.Got a bit messy in here, will be interesting to see what happens when Nikon launch their 2 new cameras and a fleet of new lenses next month.

They look pretty good on paper anyway.
I want a 50 1.2 and would have had to have bought a canon body to use it, but I am gonna hold of until Nikon's new offering is available to compare.
That would be very wise, youre going to spend a fortune. Will you run 2 systems?
Yeah whatever I go with for the 50 1.2 will only be used for that one lens I won't be buying any other lenses etc.

Nice, you must really love a 50mm 1.2!
I think Ross Harvey did that with the EF 50/1.2 at least early on.
People said exactly the same thing about 4K, now most of us have 4K TVs, 4K+ monitors and GPUs capable of running games and entertainment services in 4K. Most streaming services also offer 4K. Shooting at 8K is not just about streaming in 8K, its like saying a high MP still camera is useless, because the advantages are similar.
Its only a matter of time before 8K is the next norm, at the moment it will serve the upper end, like content creators who provide entertainment.
We all know you have nothing to usually offer except misinformation and finger pointing and the odd stupid comment like your last addition. Im not singing the RP is better than the A7iii or my A9 and Ive said many times they are the best cameras I have used but they cost much more. Couldve been Canon, Nikon, Sony who brought out the next interesting camera and I still wouldve been talking about it.
Have never had one but always wanted one.
Most new tv are 4K but still most people I know don’t own one. Maybe the tech people on here do but most aren’t that interested in tech or have 1k to buy a decent 4K tv.
It’s the same with HDR only half the new TVs claim to have it and only half that do are are capable of it.. but it’s a great marketing and selling point to the masses who have no clue.
I saw someone post on a fb photography group asking which to buy R5 or R6 as they wanted to upgrade so they could take more video in 4/8k and wanted the newest..this was followed by I’m not sure what the difference between 20mp and 40mp actually ment [emoji23]
Canon mom togs will be buying in droves, so I’m sure it will sell well regardless.
Except for high end production(movie/tv) most social media as I said is watched on a phone or even laptop, neither of which can do 8k never mind 4K.
It will be years before 8k becomes close to norm. 4K shows still only make up a tiny percentage of those produced and streamed via Netflix or amazon, bbc is a handful of things a year if your lucky.
I understand things need to progress but the fact they have pushed 8k video specs over stills seems abit strange, I know they are trying to take back the crown they had with the 5d2.
Literary since the announcement all you have done is post r5 specs in this thread and compared how much greater it is than any other camera.
He liked it because particularly shooting sunset, into the light, it has a particular characteristic that he loved so it was only used for that purpose.
i’d be inclined to do the same...except 35/50/85... like I have with the Fuji. Got to have a Canon 35mm. The EF Mount one is amazing.
I have fallen out of love with 35mm, finding it a bit of a boring focal length at the moment.
Have no interest in an 85 1.2 either, I consider that to be a specialist portrait lens and I would rather use a 135mm.
A7III isn't any good either. Is it worse than the A7iii and A9? Wonder if its to do with the higher MP sensor.
A7III isn't any good either.
I haven't used A9 a huge lot for animal eyeAF, only the human one.
I found both okay with my cats at close distance facing the camera, but nowhere near as good as Sonys human Eye AF. What body/s are you shooting at the moment?
just the A7RIV now. It doesn't work well with birds even static ones. Neither did my A7RIII.
Are you using the 200-600? I saw there was some chatter about the combo not working well, did they fix it via FW?
I noticed, you are a 24/50/135 person. I’m more in the middle.
yes but mine works just fine, no issues here. No they haven't fixed anything. They haven't even properly acknowledged it as an issue which is more worrying.
I think in the near future the question “what camera is that?” might have some weight! If the answer is “5D2”, then “man, you got some skills getting that bird in flight in perfect focus”, if it’s R5, then “good camera that!” will be the response. Lol
@twist told me he is waiting on the A7 mk4 and will switch back
Im not sure your assumption about people owning 4K TVs is correct, they are not that expensive and most TVs released recently have 4K because it is becoming a normal feature along with more streaming providers offering it. Why does someone have to be interested in tech to enjoy watching a good movie on a decent tv?
I want...
Update EVF and LCD (better touch screen please, Jesus Christ, what year is this?)
Dual UHS-II slots…
Improve AF (like the A9)
Electronic up to 20fps I guess, everyone is at it
More pixels may be? 30mp? Not really a priority.
GPS would be good but probably not space for that, it will always refer to the app.
Lit up AF points!!!
Not sure about video, don’t really bothered.
what the point of 20fps electronic if you can't use it for shooting sports?
well you seem to be wanting itI don’t know, ask Canon?
Weird how its only effecting a few though. Maybe its a lens or body mount issue so cant be fixed with FW.
Eye AF works on Bettyor they might do
I still see no firmware update for the A7RIV, animal eye-AF is non-existent on this for all practical purposes.
I think Sony’s eye-AF was only for dogs and cats anyway, but Canon’s seems to work with everything AND from a greater distance. I have no idea how this all works, but being as Nikon introduced it as a firmware update it makes me think it’s likely more firmware than hardware in which case Sony ‘may’ be able to improve it on current bodies,..... if they want to.just the A7RIV now. eye AF doesn't work well with birds even static ones. Neither did my A7RIII.
Its not a massive problem per say but knowing the eye is in critical focus all the time is really a great help.
JuicySome new A7SIII specs. Looking good more so for video folk....
- 600mbps bitrate
- Base ISO 160 for S-LOG3
- Max ISO 409600 (video)
- 16bit RAW output
- Sony claims 15 stops dynamic range
