I loved the A9's AF, complimented with a fast focusing lens it really was incredible.

It is still a great camera and possibly the best value body you can buy. I have decided to keep mine as it is handy to have a camera for when mud is flying or when you have to set up a remote that isn't as valuable as my others but still very capable.

been shooting more birds recently with the A7IV. Not that A7IV is bad but the A1 was definitely more sticky.
I am still fine to put up with that along with the blackout.... but man the 8fps really sucks.... I am missing 10fps and 15fps.
Even the extra 2fps makes fair bit of difference to getting the perfect angles of the wings or pose.
I was eye-ing there A7RV but now I am not so sure anymore.....

Thank you both. I know I've shot arch panorama images in the past, but I've never before shot two separate rows for the sky, all tracked..... The top of the arch was just out of frame at 24mm vertical orientation. Pretty pleased they came together so well in all honesty.

Just found the limitations of the 24-70mm f4, not happy with the sharpness at 70mm for landscape type shots. I've not really used it at this focal length for this type of shot before, usually much wider which is much more acceptable. I really need to start saving for the 20-70mm

I have only taken a few shots to make sure the ends were not decentred and it's really sharp at both ends for landscapes. It's usable from f4. Can't really the tell the difference vs. primes at f8.
Having said that sigma 85mm DN is a wee bit sharper even stopped down but that's not a fair comparison and I haven't got a 70mm prime to compare with. And sigma is probably one of the sharpest primes.
 
Hi all, I'm trying to download files off my A7RIII onto my PC via a usb c to usb a cable, but it my computer doesn't find the camera as a network drive. I used to use the same cable for my Nikon z6 without any issues but this Sony perhaps needs a different cable?

Should work with the usb c cable, have you put the camera in the right mode for transfer, I think it’s mass storage or something like that?

I hope it's ok to post this here.

I am looking at a prime lens for my NEX-6, and seem to enjoy using 50mm lenses a lot, so naturally I'm edging towards one of those.

The question is, which one?

I want to get a great lens now and possibly move to an A6000 or something a little further on down the line.

Does anyone have any experience with anything they think is worth a look?

Budget is £400 max

The Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS is a very good lens, as is the Sigma 56mm f/1.4.

Is it 50mm on APS-C (so 75mm equivalent) or 50mm in full frame terms?

If it’s the former then both those suggested by Ant are great options.

I had similar issues when I bought my A7Riii compared with the A7 (micro usb)

Micro USB didn't work, I did mess with some settings which I can find out later but I think it was standard mass storage in the end. I did buy a new Anker decent cable too though in USB c and it now works fine for me with one slight quirk.....

When I plug the A7 in and switch on, Lightroom opens on the import page with the SD card contents on the screen.

A7Riii opens Lightroom on the import screen but says "no images found" I have to click the top 'source' on the top left whatever that is for the SD card contents to appear.

I have a Sigma 16mm f1.4 in the classifieds at the moment - £200
24mm f1.4 in FF terms.
Possibly one of the best lenses for Sony APSC

I haven't got anything of that length to experiment with and see how it feels. So, I'm not sure that's the way to go at the moment, although the price is very reasonable and is tempting.

The other issue is that I cant see the classifieds section for another 27 days

I'll do some research.

You'll need a 35mm on your APS-C camera then to give you the 50mm full frame FOV. I've never used any E 35mm lenses, but the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS is supposed to be very good. You can of course use 35mm full frame lenses, and they too will give you roughly 50mm in full frame terms.

That makes sense regarding FOV.

I'm currently watching a 30mm lens from Sigma and I'll have a look around for 35mm Sony OSS.

Sony 35mm F1.8 Oss wasn't that good ime. It was softer in the corners than my Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 even after shopping it down to f2.8.

I'd suggest sigma 30mm f1.4, Zeiss touit 32mm f1.8, or one the FF lenses like samyang 35mm F1.8 or Sony FE 35mm F1.8.

Obviously I can’t comment on that having never used either but all reviews I’ve seen give 4.5/5 or 9.5/10 barring one which have it 4/5 (y)

Thanks for that.

I am currently pretty certain the Sigma 30mm lens will be the way i go. The reviews on it appear to be consistent and the sample images look bloody good too.

The Zeus’s Touit has great colour rendering but it’s bokeh is a little choppy - it’s beautifully made though and feels very nice in the hand (I owned the Fuji mount version for a period for a time)

I haven't used it for a long time but I do remember pictures I've taken with it. If I want 28mm I normally pick my Panasonic GX80 and 14mm f2.5. I might try and use the Sony 28mm more but these days my cheap Chines lenses seem to be all I'm using... apart from my old film era Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro :D

It was a lovely day. We had fish and chips on the pier and a lovely paddle :D

Don't forget the Sony 28mm f2. It doesn't seem to get a lot of love but after corrections area applied I'm happy with my used buy :D Googling showed me one at a well known seller for £179.
