The review I just skimmed through (since I'm not in the market for a new camera) had readout at ~20ms - apparently the stacked sensor has a processing layer to improve DR, at the cost a a bit of readout speed (though still a lot faster than the A7Rv).

Nice, so around £2800 grey market.
I would expect more than that the a7v only reached 2k after 6 months and started at around 2400
To be honest at best I expected it to match the a7v with readout and buffer.. it really is just a double mp a7v thenSlower readout speed than even the A75, so much for it being an A1 killer.

The main benefits of the stacked sensor in Rvi are the faster readout speeds (than a typical non-stacked sensor camera) and the balckout free shooting. Its not a speed demon like some other stacked designs.
Slower readout speed than even the A75, so much for it being an A1 killer.
Yes, the smaller resolution sensor of the A7V will give it an advantage!

just watched a review on youtube. Rolling shutter may very well be an issue for action and sports as its clearly visible. Also 1/8000 maximum shutter speed in electronic shutter is strangely lagging.
i guess the cripple hammer was needed otherwise would have been odd decision to outperform the flagship a1.

When I saw the price before the full specs I was second guessing if I should have waited. But not any longer.
Rolling shutter and flicker will still be an issue the a7v still has it

It’s that slow the stacked sensor is making zero difference.
Zero chance of being able to use the e-shutter in artificial light either.

The electronic shutter and pre-buffer is still useful for certain subjects like larger birds or animals that don't necessarily move as fast.
Dynamic range is also slightly better.
EVF is supposedly very close to OVF now.
The 1/8000s shutter limitation sucks
Think I'll probably skip this... but for those with some spare change, it's a credible upgrade i feel

Seems like no talk about the 100-400/4.5 lens which I'm more impressed with especially the weight and price.
It's lighter than 200-600mm
Considering how big and expensive the old DSLR 200-400mm f4 were, this is amazing!
Even the oly 150-400mm f4.5 is larger and more expensive.

I’m more surprised people fill these buffers
Even with the A7 V’s 35 shot lossless buffer that means you’ve got to be holding the shutter down for over 3 seconds to fill it, that’s a long time 
Actually come to think of it that’s similar to the A1II, it takes just over 3s to fill the buffer at 30fps.
(They’re probably both a little longer as some files will have been written to the card in that time)
only 1.2 sec or something on the a7v and if u use the pre capture it can be far lessI’m more surprised people fill these buffers

Finally usable for video. Thats the headline update. Not bad on its own if grey hit sub 3k.
A1 spec is much preferable though. There is like almost no scenario where i must have that extra 17mp. None. R5 ii also handily beats it other than lens mount

Also now it has illuminated buttons
I have shot plenty in the dark, and i mostly shoot with muscle memory. Never had an issue but apparently there are people who need this

I was initially impressed by the 100-400mm f4.5 but then I got to thinking, is it really worth double the price and 500g for 2/3 of a stop over the old GM? I'm sure it'll be slightly sharper and faster AF in the lab but I've never found the original GM lacking in either of these areas. The internal zoom is nice, but then the whole thing is much larger. I think I'd rather have the 300mm f2.8 and use TC's.

Ahh, google lied to me, it said it was only 10fps but after just going on the Sony site I see that it's 10fps Mechanical and 30fps electronic
Yeah 1s shooting is not ideal, although I'm not sure if I've ever continuously shot for much longer than this. Adding pre-capture does alter things, although if I was shooting anything that requires pre-capture I'm guessing I'd be using the mechanical shutter to avoid rolling shutter.

2/3rd stop definitely makes a difference and especially in the UK.
It's difference between shooting at under 1/1000s or over 1/1000s
Plus the point is it'll be much sharper with TCs
He's done a comparison against 200-600mm, even with TC it's sharper
300mm f2.8 can't go to 800mm with 2x, plus it costs 50% more and it's not a zoom.
i also don't see it as a replacement for the original 100-400mm. It's more a good upgrade for people shooting with 200-600mm or 400-800mm, it'll be mostly sharper and lighter by a fair margin.

These are very marginal differences, and illuminated buttons are mainly for new users. Its a tough one when staying on canon practically means pretty much no new lenses everI'd prefer the R5ii myself but A7RVI does have other benefits.
