The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

A new Sigma zoom coming?

New toy just arrived. Been working like two men and a wee lad lately so deserved an unnecessary purchase. :p

We already have the Sony 35 GM, the Sony 35 f/1.8 and the Sigma 35 f/2.

Will probably get rid of the 35 f/1.8. Really dislike the colours and bokeh from that lens.

Pretty well set for 35mm. :D
Very nice. :)

Chuck the 35GM in the classified section if you don’t need it :p

Ya got me there Toby. I’ve no idea.
It's a tricky one as it's custom. Fat Boys don't have three headlights from stock but it was a popular custom back then. Also, if it is a Fat Boy they've also put a 2 into one exhaust on. AFAIK solid wheels have only ever been on Fat Boys from stock, but there's not reason someone couldn't have added them, but if I was to have a punt I'd say it's probably a custom Evo Fat Boy. It definitely looks like a softail frame rather than Dyna, do you have any other pics?

Sadly not. I only took the one frame.

No worries. If I was ever to get another Harley I think I'd have an older Fat Boy. Bit newer than that one, probably a twin cam.

Anyone that's had the A7C how much better are the newer camera bodies?

Which newer bodies, do you mean the A7cii or A7cr?
I had the original A7c and I'd say those two are pretty good upgrade, especially on ergonomics and AF. Better IBIS, triple dials, better EVF, better AF.

Was looking for an A7cr myself but now wondering if there'll be new versions with the stacked sensor.

Just all newer bodies, not followed along with releases since the A7C/A7iii, so no idea what I'm improvement the A7iv or A7v bring the A7Cii doesn't seem like a bit change.

Had a few proper outings with the a7v and 50 1.2 and keep being blown away with this setup.

Daughter’s graduation and ball… nailed every image I took, low light iso 10,000 @1.2/1/200 it was faultless.
The event guys were using 24-70s &flash in the church and all night.

My daughter’s sports day today . Shooting the high jump and shot putt at 1.2( cause why not)
Pre capture at 30fps and again rarely ever missed a shot.
The times it did I would put due to me not knowing the focus settings and not locking on the person.
I’ve always shot single point or eye af never tracked.. so need to actually go and watch some videos on settings.

Shot over a thousand shots today and used 25/30% of the battery.
pre capture and 30fps is actually stupid. Its like watching a video play
I went down to 20 fps as even with the smaller buffer it was far too many images.
I probably culled 90% of them, which in its self was very time consuming.. maybe need to look at my work flow.

I can’t even imagine using the new a7rvi at this speed with the larger buffer and larger file sizes.

Definitely the most fun set up I’ve ever used and for sure when it’s not good it’s a me issue not a camera issue.

Now just need to decide what lens to buy next.

A7cii has better EVF, 7 stops IBIS, 3 dials, better AF, UHSii card slot, and more pixels

A7iv is mostly like A7cii but with weaker IBIS but larger EVF, dual card slots.

A7v comes with a semi-stacked sensor, can shoot up to 30fps, 7.5stops IBIS, one stop more dynamic range

I'd say all of them are big enough change from A7c/A7iii but depends on what you are after. If you just want a nice FF sensor with adequate amount of pixels, AF, image quality etc then A7c is plenty good, but so were FF bodies from 10 years ago :D

The A7cII seems to be a step up from the A7III except for the 1/4,000 limit for the mechanical shutter.

A7CII is basically a gimped A7iV.

I liked mine for the form factor but sold it on due to lack of use. Too many other cameras and not enough time for personal photography for it to have a camera just for that.

A7CIII should be due soon and will likely be a gimped A7V in the smaller form factor.

If it has the do it all back screen I might have to get one. I can't get used to the articulating screen, looking to the left of the camera rather than having the screen in line with the lens feel so unnatural and it throws me off and I'm having to straighten too many pictures. I'd much rather have a tilting screen than articulated but a do it all would be better for the odd times I want it.

It probably wont have it though if the RX1 is anything to go by as Sony seem obsessed with saving millimeters.

The do it all screen is very good tbf. And yes the screen is a bit of an annoyance and I found it very frustrating on the A7IV when trying to shoot high or low.

Although I mainly just use the tilt function anyway.

On the A7CII I didn’t find the screen to be as big as an annoyance as I mainly used it with small lenses. Shooting portrait it was useful. With the A7IV being heavier and always used with bigger heavier lenses pulling out the screen to shoot portraits was much worse as was more difficult to do one handed.

The downside of the do it all screen is that it feels very flimsy and I always feel I have to be more careful with it.

I am kind of missing the nice EVF on the larger bodies.
Choice is either just keep the A7C or upgrade to either the A7Cii or A7V.
I either have the 20-70f4 on or the 35 GM these days.

After seeing the advancement on A7V from the sensor, I'd either get the A7V or wait for A7ciii
With the newly semi-stacked sensor you can shoot electronic shutter up to 1/16000. Plus with its faster readout speed you can use it for most things. That kinda negates the 1/4000s limitation on A7c series

Not to mention you get 1 stop more dynamic range too.

Might be time to sell the A7C to MPB, A7V is £1,819

£1680 I found it for.
Not trusting that site if you are referring to Baryl Photo. I'll stick to either E-Infinity or Cotswold Cameras. Just got to put some thought into the increase in size from my A7C.

I too was skeptical but I ordered from them a few months ago and it was all good, a brand new boxed lens.

It wasn’t a £1700 lens but the experience was still ok.

Still too new a company for me to trust. Already a couple of 1 star reviews out of 18 so not great.

Re the glowing 4 star reviews. If they're so happy and everything was wonderful and they'd happily buy again why only 4 stars? What do you need to do to get 5 stars?

Arrived today. :)

I have a ThinkTank Retrospective 5 at the minute but it's getting a bit tatty. Any recommendations for something with similar styling that's maybe a lighter build. Just needs to fit a A7 plus something like my 20-70f4 attached plus storage for one other lens (usually replace that lens with a water bottle when on holiday)

I’ve got the retro 10 which is maybe a lot larger.
I bought a vanguard veo go 34m shoulder bag as it’s noticeably lighter and smaller but can still hold my a7v with one lens and another spare( depending on size)
It can carry my 50/1.2 and tamron 28-75 okay. There is still a large bottom pouch ment for a tripod, but I’ve never found it holds one well so often slip two bottles of water in.
Not the prettiest of bags mine is split brown and the should pad could be abit more padded.

Trying to get some test shots with the A7RVI and 70-350 but I think the moon is just too small in the sky even with the reach from FF to S35.

Will take it out this weekend to a wildlife park if I can.

It's small in the sky for me when I use MFT at 400mm giving a FF equivalent of 800mm. I think you have to crop :D

Yep, you’ll need around 2800mm to fill the frame

Very similar?

As I had something like 15 50mm lenses and maybe as many 35's I'm not sure that being similar would stop me buying both but the option to buy just one is I suppose there.

Anyone tempted? And if buying just one, which? I think I'd go for the... 90mm. APS-C though.

75mm seems a bit strange but I suppose an 85 and a 90 would be a bit much,
