The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I've been lurking around this thread for far too long now without posting, so as we're seeing lots of pics at the moment, I thought I'd join in.

This small hoverfly was taken with the 90mm macro, one of my favourite lenses, which has seen a lot of use of this spring and summer.

That`s a cracking shot Peter.

I see that there's money off a number of the Samyang lenses at the mo (y)

In actual fact as you probably already know your/ones natural body stabilisation is by far the best option when shooting from a boat or anything else moving about. The only time a tripod is of any use is if whatever its standing on is stable.

George.

I think the problem was that people were fixating on the posters blurry photo problem and saw a tripod as a good fix maybe missing the fact that the poster was shooting from a boat :D

My old film era manual lens fixation seems to have taken off again as after buying the Nikon 50mm f1.8 pancake I've followed up with a 35mm f2.5 and a 28mm f2.8. Oh well, it's a relatively cheap obsession :D

I know it's a tongue in cheek joke, but is all your stuff put away Alan or do you have it in a display cabinet?

The only lens I have on display is a Minolta Rokkor 35mm f2.8 MC. It's a lovely lens but the coating on the inner element is gone and it's completely unusable as a lens. It still looks nice though.

I tend to keep my lenses in metal biscuit tins lined with bubble wrap. I have three tins full and an over spill cardboard box which is filling up too so I'll have to stop buying but in my defence I do use them all, eventually, and compared to what some others spend on gear the £200 or so I've spent recently on three lenses is small beer. The reason for the new Nikons is that I really like the ones I have so I wanted to fill the gaps so that if I take more than one lens out I don't need to take extra adaptors too.

A 50 and a 35 or 28mm should make a nice two lens set.

I'm pretty sure his collection has its own room:ROFLMAO:

Since I got married I don't have a room as such as every space seems to belong to Mrs WW.

I think it's a rule.

While I'm here. I made a bramble and apple crumble. Yum Yum. A7 and Nikon 50mm f2+ No.4 close up filter.

On it`s own, or with a nice spoonful of think cream yummy.

I'm sure someone will buy you some biscuits for Christmas :)

And, crumble should be with custard imo

And...... Another thing seeing as you mentioned money. Someone I work with took out a 5-6 year £25k loan for a Jag XKR 14 months ago paying back about £32-35k I think. They've just traded it in for £11k for an F-Pace SVR on lease paying £580 a month...... And I was undecided about blowing £1100 on a used 24GM!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I've had some nice cars but a happy byproduct of being a workaholic in a decent job was that I always paid cash. If a car is needed a cheap hatchback will do but no one needs a high end car on finance, imo.

But life is short, you're only here once etc.

As a young fella I would happily spend half of my monthly wages into paying for a car. Crazy isn’t it.

At the moment I have 2 cars but they are bought and paid for. Don’t think I would ever go down the route again of shelling out hundreds every month to have a fancy new car at the door.

Maybe I am just getting old. :D

My wee brother has an Audi R8 have no idea what he pays every month but I imagine when you add the cost of insurance etc he is probably shelling out not far off a grand a month.

The F-Pace SVR is a very lovely car but I’d reckon the first year depreciation on that is around 15k. How much camera gear could you get for that?

The rumor site has a vid review of the Sony 12-24mm f2.8. Here it is on Youtube. I had a Sigma 12-24mm when I had Canon DSLR's and for a while it was my most used lens so I'd love one of these.

There's an interesting piece on DPR comparing a 7artisans 35mm f1.4 to a much more expensive Leica. As both of these lenses could be used on Sony mirrorless this could be interesting.

It's from here...

Has anyone ever tried a 7artisans lens? They do seem to be good value.

Tried a very cheap 35mm f1.2 manual focus one for fuji which was OK but soft wide open

There's a Sony 28-70mm in the for sale section for £85. That seems to be good price for what is IMO a perfectly acceptable and even good standard range variable aperture zoom.

There's a Tokina 20mm f2 AF in the for sale section at what looks to be a good price.

I went for the Sony f1.8 but this Firin is significantly cheaper. I'm mildly surprised no one has bought it yet.

As it's quiet here.

Snaps from the garden. A7 and Nikon 50mm f2 + No.4 close up filter.

Tomatoes.

What's that at the back?

There's no one home and it looks like a bit of a fixer upper.

Hand held, the ISO was creeping up at 1/200, in the breeze too so I had to press the button when I though it'd be swinging back to a position at which it'd be in focus... so don't expect miracles!

These were all f5.8 or 8. I quite like the look this lens gives when stopped down to these sort or apertures.

I agree. People have said the same about the Escort but that's more of a sentimental thing than boasting thing.

I'm not knocking anyone btw. If that's what someone wants to do then so be it. I just can't get my head around it I suppose really. It's not like he's a business man, or a company owner, or plays posh rounds of golf, or attends meetings..... Just drives 3 miles to work every day, half a mile to the local drinking establishment in the evening & shopping on a Sunday morning ;) Could have a nice weekend away every month for that much outlay :)

Just playing with my A7 and Vivitar 19mm f3.8 (Minolta mount) on the way to the shops.

Off we go.

Beyond the pathway.

There's vignetting and it's poor towards the corners and there's no way it can even begin to stand comparison to something like the Sony 20mm f1.8 but it is very compact and light and it is just a lovely lens to use.

PS.
The brambles are coming along nicely and there are loads of elderberries. Mrs WW hasn't bothered with the elderberries this year but one year she made jam and one of my sisters made some elderberry wine which wasn't too bad.

We had the last of that crumble when we got home :D
