The GAS confessional - all who suffer are welcome. :)

Man maths - not quite what I meant but it works!

I'm currently musing selling all my stuff (at considerable financial loss) and doing something different.

I may turn my hand to the wheel of the potter or basket weaving or even macramé.

Can I assume GAS is not restricted to camera gear?

I've known a few mechanics in my time. You think we photographers have problems with GAS? :wideyed:

I'm the same with tools. I never seem to have enough drills, saws, spanners, g-clamps......................................................

You will be so slow at basket weaving you wont make any profit.

It takes years to get fast at it, a very experienced pro told me that.

Although he might just have been trying to put me off lol.

This is probably the wrong place to post this but I think I'm actually and rather quickly losing interest in the gear.

I think I've got a bit too much gear. In the past one thing that I've thought was missing from my little line up is a Sony AF 35mm f1.8 and I really wanted one and it's rumoured that Sony are about to announce one but I've realised that I'm really not all that excited and may even not actually be bothered. This has come as a bit of a shock to me :D

These days when I get the chance to go out with a camera I normally take my A7 and 35mm f2.8 or if I want to take some close up pictures I mount a film era 50mm f2.8 macro. Sometimes when I want a smaller camera I take the 1" camera. My other kit including Sonly mount lenses, two MFT cameras and lenses and 30 or so film era lenses aren't seeing a lot of use.

I've been searching for nearly forty years for a "One camera does all" solution and have failed.
It seems to me that if I don't specialise in a type of photography I've never got the gear I want, it's always a compromise.

This is why, as an amateur, I'm forever changing my gear.

My guess is, by this time next year, I'll be the proud owner of a P&S.

Travel zooms are great. They do nothing superbly but everything well enough (and they fit in your pocket). I always have one with me. :giggle:

Luckily for the better half, I don't have the budget for major GAS. I did convince her that we (as in me) should get a new camera and lens combo last year and I am still being reminded of it every month when the payment goes out of the joint account (luckily 0% interest).
I am now resorting to my personal spends account and ebay etc. I am buying a lens dismantling tool set, and will be looking for cheap old lenses that I can modify. I am wondering what effects I can create by fiddling with things. Hopefully it will be a lot less disappointing than looking at drones and tripods and lenses and bags and so on and so forth.

This whole bloody thread ought to be in the equipment forum - it's got very little to do with the essence of photography as I see it. It's just about shopping. The photography forum (which this is) is more naturally about the culture of imaging. Or if not, then anything goes, anywhere, but a bit more structure would be welcome.

Or possibly two!
Well, yes. :naughty:

They may not be the best cameras in the world but they let you get pictures yer actual phone camera won't...

So, it seems we have all been very restrained - perhaps we are taking advantage of the weather in all its variations.... unless anybody would like to confess???

Would it be GAS if I’m a Fuji Shooter and have 3 Fuji Bodies but decided I Needed a Canon, so bought an 80d....

I have nothing to say in case I incriminate myself. ;)

Must. Sell. Some. Lenses.

And cameras. :exit:

Don't be bashful... what have you acquired that you need to sell more than one lens for?

I don't need to sell anything to pay for the lens. :)

I need to sell stuff (bought because of GAS attacks) which never gets used. My fear is that the cash gained from the sales might trigger a relapse and I'll fritter it on something else I have no real use for.

The lens is a 35mm f1.8 Nikon. Nothing special.

After weeks of consideration I decided to resist the Fuji lens discounts, OK that’s a lie! I was half way to the camera shop when I realised I didn’t have my debit card with me, cash machine ate my card last week and the replacement hadn’t made it’s way to my wallet.

Couldn’t be arsed to drive home for the card then set off back go the camera shop, now that’s real will power!

I bought a drone a few weeks ago on a whim and in a moment of weakness. Do I need it? No - I just wanted it.

I am hankering after a film camera , don't really know why
I keep finding myself perusing all manner of offerings on the bay
Flitting between 35mm slr to point and shoot

Well I went for a mooch to a camera shop a couple of days ago and there wasn't a single item of Canon kit and almost two shelves of Nikon stuff. Odd. Anybody bought anything?

brought a canon Eos r, 100mm macro and 400mm lens, need to sell my 6D and 100-400mm now, I find it so easy to buy new stuff, not so easy to sell!

Well, if you have been here long enough [ check the rules] you could sell them on here without fees. I would be interested to hear you thoughts in the EOS R thread as to how you find the transition.

I told you all to hold on tight.......BANG......... Gas Explosion.......Smoke Clears...... How/What/Who....... push........ wahhhhhhhhh. It’s a Sony a7iii

Now there’s a thought..... can we invite @addicknchips ......Jonathan would love it.....

The 16mm 1.4 Fuji wasn’t enough, I’ve just placed an order for a Sony 24-70 2.8 GM, Sony FE 85mm 1.8 and the Sony FE 90mm f2.8 Macro.

Put a few camera bodies together last night for a size/weight comparison with the newly acquired fuji gear. I rather quickly realised that I definitely have the GAS problem as this is barely a quarter of what I have, and that's just the camera bodies. o_O Lenses are whole other kettle of fish.

O M G ........... Someone needs serious helllllpppppp
